hi all, small update from yesterday, we wax oiled all four arches and radius arms etc so that should prevent the rust for a bit longer  we will wax oil the underside, subframes and sills etc when we put it up on a ramp before the MOT :proud:

hi all, i can't believe i haven't even touched my mini for more than a week now :ohno: there just simply isn't anything i can work on but i am now looking for some twin hs2's and some ram pipes with piper cross filter socks to spice up the engine bay a bit more and hopefully get squeeze more ponies and torque out of the lump :D i'm also liking the idea of a 12g295 head and a turbo charger but that's getting a bit ahead of my self...i can barely afford my insurance as it is O_O

mot has been set back a few weeks and i'm itching to get on the road >_< i have my theory test in two weeks tuesday so fingers crossed :shy:

Hi Rhys.
I like the idea of the updated head etc. I am puttin a 12g202 head on mine. From what I have read they are nearly as good as the 12g295 . The valves aren't quite as big but they're not far off. From what my dad says they were a common mod to do when he was a 'lad' . Obviously the 12g295 head would be a lot older and possibly a bit more prone to cracking. I dunno. Also the 12g202 will probably be cheaper. This was what I read once.. Lol.. I'm probably wrong.

Keep up the good work mate.
Joe.

hi mate, you are correct, i did consider the 202 but i thought that if i was going to spend money on another head, i might as well go the full mile  but i'm getting ahead of my self as i'm only 17 :shy: think i'm gonna stick with my single hs4 atm for the fuel economy but i'm defo gonna get a long ram pipe and piper cross sock filter as they look ace  much better than my el cheapo nastio ebay special pancake filter ;D

cheers buddy

Just had a read through your long thread. I like your work. The rust you had in the beginning in the front passenger floor, is exactly the same as mine currently is, right in the corner >_< Got myself a replacement panel but I'm worried about my subframe mounts as the lower bolt looks completely rusted into oblivion (the head has rust welded itself to the panel) Also our SA mini's don't have rubber mountings, they are all straight bolt on. I hope the holes on the subbie are still ok so I can just drill out and replace the bolt. You can see my two bolts in yellow.

cheers matey :proud:

that's some bad rust there mate, when you replace the panels, i'd weld a plate over the new subby mount holes and onto the back of the subby, that way you'd be sandwiching the subby to the bulkhead and it doesn't mater if the holes have rusted out bigger...just make sure you cut out/treat the rust first so you don't trap rust in the gaps >_<

Shot! Yeah I was thinking of a reinforcing plate. I hate rust, rust is cancer to my mini. The floor is not actually that bad. Just the rust at the toe and the rest is all the glue and fluff left over from the insulation and carpeting, but I've got a whole new panel so why not replace the whole thing :proud:

if it is a pattern panel, i wouldn't cut out the stamped channels as they never line up right

Great thread, great rebuild.

Love the fact that you kept the St.Chris, my grandad gave me one he's put on every motorbike hes had since the 70's and now hes given it to me for my mini :D although mine will go on the dash, :D

question: What carpet set did you buy?

Cheers.
