It's self adhesive

i think you have this stuff mistaken for dedicated automotive sound deadening which comes with one self adhesive side, it is actually water proof laminate flooring underlay which i am using impact/contact adhesive to stick to the inside of the car.

How thick is it? I assumed it was proper stuff, it certainly looks like it.

The silent coat is waterproof as well, You just have to make sure you get a good seal around the edges

yeah it does look like proper stuff doesn't it, i knew it would catch some one out ;D lol, it is about 6mm thick and resists fire and is very pliable so is practically perfect for the job

yeah that's the one major down side to sound deadening of any sort, it will trap moisture if water gets behind it, and we all know what that means... :ohno:

Is it very heavy? Hopefully you won't be testing it's fire resisting properties!

it is fairly dense, maybe slightly heavier than actual silent coat but not so heavy that it would affect handling or any thing like that...yeah hopefully not  but it is good to know that it resists heat, mainly because i am planing on covering the underside of the bonnet in this stuff as well

I was thinking more along the lines of heavy is good, after all, that's how it works. Where did you get it from?

we got this from tops tiles but i would image that any DIY store that sells laminate flooring will also stock this stuff or similar (this is the type of underlay for laying laminate on top of concrete to prevent damp from coming up through the floor)

hi all, today we finished fitting the bonnet, it turns out that the reason that the nuts wouldn't tighten is that i had run the wrong size tap down them so when i put the nuts onto the bolts, the threads in the nuts only just bit into the threads on the bolt and when i tried to tighten them up, they just slipped out of each other >_< but it is all sorted now and after a few attempts, we got the bonnet gaps pretty much spot on :D

tomorrow we will bleed the brakes and seal a small blow in the exhaust y piece, then it can be dropped down off of the axle stands and back onto all four wheel for the first time in 9 months

hi all, yesterday i spent a good seven hours cleaning the headlining...

Posted Image

...and dashboard and i also lay down some more sound deadening but i have run out of contact adhesive so i need to get some more to finish the sound deadening on the bulkhead, rear quarters, rear seat and boot floor

Posted Image

i also tried t cutting the A and B posts, cross member and rear bins but i'm still not happy with them so i am going to get some spray paint matched and give them a new coat of paint, i'm not going to get them re sprayed when i get the rest of the car done as to be honest it just won't be worth the extra work to mask every thing else off and i don't want to pay the extra money >_<

we also bled the brakes and fixed a leak in the exhaust so now it can be dropped back down onto it's wheels
