Very nice front end, great fit, especially with magnum panels. I had some trouble with heritage panels so well done with yours.
Graham
cheers Graham, the front and A panels are magnum, the scuttle is heritage but the wings are something like 'Crystaline' and have the same finish as the heritage panels and are a brilliant fit...we got them from Old skool minis in perry bar.
the scuttle was the only heritage panel used on the car but it did need a bit of pulling to get it to fit against the top dash rail, i only got a heritage scuttle because i heard that people who use pattern scuttles have trouble fitting the wind screen properly
Cheers

Hi Rhys
I love the look of the underside of the car. It looks really good. I keep reading your thread and I noticed what you said about 2 coats of cherry red and a coat of lacquer. I am sure you know but I think that originally the car should have had 3 coats of the cherry red and then a coat of lacquer with the pearlescent red flicks in it then finished off with another coat of clear lacquer. I am sure I read that somewhere. It's an amazing price though. I just thought I'd let you know that though incase you weren't awaye.
Cheers
keep up the good work!
Joe.

Glad to see you had good products and service from old school minis as i'm planning a visit at the weekend to pick up some panels for the first time. Just started my rebuild on my 89 mayfair after it's been sat on the drive for a few years, might see you around when they're both finished

hi joe, yeah i know that there was originally more coats than the bloke quoted but for this price i couldn't moan...but he will be using 2 pak paint rather than cellulose so maybe the paint will be thicker ? who knows but at least it will be done by a professional because i would hate to mess up one of the final stages of the build and it will be the bit that everyone will see. cheers pal
hi dolph, what colour is your mini as i have seen a growing number of mini's around town recently. yeah old skool mini's are great, friendly and help full staff and great quality products. good luck pal
cheers for all your feedback guys

Having sprayed the quarter panels of Vinnie last summer, Cherry red does quite noticeably change colour the more paint you put on?
hi pal, yeah i noticed that a small amount when painting...the paint isn't a perfect match to the body colour any way as you cannot buy brush able pearlescent cherry red, but we will be covering the underside and arches in wax oil which will mask the difference hope fully
Cheers

It's Black with a silver roof, but i haven't used it for about 4 years. Decided i'd get it back on the road for summer but after looking into a couple of small patches of rust it's turning into a strip down a respray. Think i'll pop over to old skool on sat
i haven't seen that mini before i don't think, yeah minis are like that...a few patches here and there turn into whole panels needing replacement
good luck bud, are you going to post up a build thread on here ?

THE SHELL IS FINALLY RUST FREE, SOLID AND STRONG
first we went around the whole car, with a wire brush, looking for any bubbling paint, cracks or splits in the paint and rust...any rust holes that we found were ground out with a die grinder and rust reverted
O/S front roof corner
O/S B pillar
O/S rear quarter window frame (some one has given this a thick coat of filler previously)
N/S front roof corner
N/S rear roof corner
O/S rear roof corner
the other rear quarter frame was fine, the small spots of bubbling paint on the back of the car were just slight surface rust, the roof gutters and vertical corner seams cleaned up good and there was no other areas of rust on the car. we welded up the holes and decided to put some more weld in the rear quarter repair panels to fully seam weld them...and that was that, the shell's body repairs are finished
then we fitted the new doors for the first time and the fit wasn't to bad, we had to use a die grinder to elongate the door hinge holes to allow us to bring the doors out a few millimetres so that the skins lay flush with the A panels. we had to use what me and my dad call a British Leyland fine tuning tool ( hammer ) to bend the rear bottom corners in to sit flush with the rear quarters. we also had to build up part of the door skins at along the top back edge of both doors as the gap was quite large in this area
before
during
after
we did the same for the other door but i forgot to take photos of this although the gaps are still not quite perfect, we decided that we could of spent hours and hours adding metal, grinding welds and bending but they would still not be 100% but we are happy with them as they are now.
