Hi Rhys
The back of the mini was a right old mess to be honest. Someone had already had the boot lid and the boot floor was like a sieve. The sunny is knackered down one side. It the radius arms look OK. I was also after the brackets that go on the end of the radius arms as mine were a bit of a state because the car has had the sills welded and the brackets were welded too for some reason.. (who knows.. haha) I am still, overall, impressed..!
Glad you're not going for the chav-tastic look.. it spoils a mini in my opinion.. someone had put racing pedals from Aldi on mine and it looked ridiculous.. lol needless to say I donated them to landfill.. I wanted to fit 13 inchers and big arches to mine but I'm torn... I think its best to stick with 12s.. my wheels are all knackered and they don't even match so I will have to get some new ones whatever I decide.. lol
Take care
Joe

just got a delivery from mini spares, special arch kit (4 factory fitted arches and 2 sill trims), fixing kit and 2 new rubber tear drop front sub frame mounts

change of plans, we can't work on cliff this week end :( so we are going to fit the scuttle and front end next week end...we will take the subby, mounts and bonnet to help get the alignment just right

Hi rhys.
I won't be working on cherry either this weekend. I am going to The Deep in Hull tomorrow and then going up to our holiday home near Filey for the the night.
I got some Wood and Picket arches from eBay just after I got the car. They're second hand but are in good condition. They'll get paineted to match the car. They were only £15 so they were a bargain. I just need the rubber finishers to go with them.
Cheers

i like the look of the wood and pickett arches but for £20 you can't go wrong with the special arch kit...did you get the sill trims too or do the wnp arches not have the sill trims ?

Cheers

There were no trims with them. Unsure if ill use them. They were a bit if an impulse buy.. lol. For 15 quid they have still got to be worth it. Even if I end up whacking them back on eBay. Haha. Im a bit of a way off deciding though yet.. still don't have arches to put them on! Haha.

hi all, today we made quite a bit of progress

underside all painted in cherry red paint

i have decided to paint the engine bay and boot in this paint too so that will be done during the week

then we attached the scuttle, even though it is a heritage panel we still had to mess around to get it to fit spot on...which it does...

Posted Image

Posted Image

then we bolted on the subframe, the black paint and red poly bushes really stand out against the fresh cherry red paint

this enabled us to fit the front panel...

Posted Image

...N/S wing...

Posted Image

...and A panel

Posted Image

for pattern panels these fit really well and the gaps are good

Posted Image

during the week my dad will fit the other wing and A panel then next week end we will remove all the panels whilst they are still attached to each other and weld the seams. then we will fit the whole thing as a solid front end, this will allow us to properly seam weld all the joins and make it stronger.

before we left i primed the exposed metal on the scuttle

all these panels, other than the heritage scuttle, are from old skool minis...we can't recommend them enough, very friendly and helpful staff.

Cheers

Rhys

Just pondered over your project here. Looking very good mate! Just wondered in your opinion how easy/hard it was getting th engine out on the subframe. Would you recommend?

It's very well illustrated by the way and good to follow. Keep it up! :-)

Cheers,

Ross

cheers ross, it was fairly straight forward to take the engine out on the subby, we removed most of the ancillaries and things such as wires and pipes that might get caught, then drop the font end down and rest the gearbox and lower wish bones on bricks or wood, then undo the rest of the sub frame bolts and finally lift the front of the car up and off the engine/subby and drag the sub frame assembly out of the way

hope this helps

Rhys
