Re your exhaust - anything is possible but I would stick with the single exit - twin pipes either side don't look "right" in my opinion and you've always got the issue of siting it round the battery box.
I would be more concerned about how restricted your LCB is as it looks like it's been squashed....

It would work the same as a miglia but a little ott on a 998. As mr bounce has said your lcb looks like it will give issues being squashed like that

Your exhaust idea being the same as the miglia design?

the lcb was squashed when the owner split the system up as the whole system was from the same car, so the flanges on the y piece were bent out wards and they have used a hammer to bash the lcb out of the y piece.
i thought the same thing when i brought it from bingley...but the volume of the pipe hasn't changed, just the shape of it so gas flow shouldn't be affected
Cheers for the replies people

thanks for the feed back pal, is there a reason why the twin exit does not look right ? or is that just your personal taste ? sorry if i seem ignorant but i don't want to mess up the style of the car and make it look tacky

thanks for the reply mate, by over-the-top do you mean it will be too big of a system for the engine output or does it not look good in your opinion ?
Cheers for feed back

If it's just noise you're after then the Miglia-type exhaust will be ok, but I doubt it will do much for your performance. I generally class that sort of twin-exit exhaust as "all show and no go" - they can look good (and often do) but as stated above they're not brilliant for tuning purposes. They're just not my personal choice. Plus they often look like they're sagging on one side if you're not super careful when you hang it.
thanks for the advice, i am aiming for optimum performance and good sound will just be a bonus. wouldn't centre exit be louder than twin exit as there is less resistance for the air flow ?
Cheers

i finally managed to source the tiny twist rivets for the engine number plate...i couldn't find them any where ! ! and a spot weld remover drill bit
i got a book about the history of the mini
i got a mini thirty key ring
and i got a mini thirty pillow as well
i might get the thirty gear stick as well but i like the shape and ergonomics of the original metro style one though...sorry for the A level product design moment there
Cheers for any feed back, it's great to get people's opinions on my progress

Glad to see you're moving along and I agree with you about the gear knob. I think the original looks. And feels loads better. I have just got round to cleaning up the boot floor of my cherry 30 and it's a mess. Someone has done a total bodge job in corner of the floor. The corner of the rear valance was full of wire wool, fibre glass, filler and goodness knows what else! Its all coming along now though..
is there a way of finding out what number mini 30 it is? I found the number 64 etched into my floorpan when I stripped it back and I was just wondering if that could be it. I doubt mine is an early one though, as it was registered in 1990.. I've done some research and found that there are currently only 194 mini 30's taxed in the uk and 175 sorn.. just thought that was a bit of semi-interesting info for you.. lol.
Cheers. Joe.

Wish I had the patience to do what your doing regarding the welding! I think I will be re-shelling mine now, rust is too far gone and its by far the cheapest option, as I work a the premier mini company now so I can nick tools etc from up there to help dismantle mine :) Haha, cant wait to see yours finished pal!
How long did it take you to get everything off the car?
And what spec are you going for when finished, engine wise, interior..? Similar to how it rolled out the factory..?
Looking great though mate, pretty jealous if im honest how your cracking on so well ;)
Keep it up bud!

my rear valance is full of filler too...the o/s corner has actually disintegrated behind the fog lamp...........my boot floor is pretty solid though
Cheers for that Joe...i was just wandering the other day how i could find out what number my little 30 was to roll out of longbridge ? i think the Vin number could tell us some thing, i'll get in the garage saturday and have another look around the floors as i didn't spot a number...where abouts did you find the number mate ?

thanks for the support Conor....my dad has done most of the welding as he is alot more experienced.
i know your shell is a lot rustier than mine but consider this:
don't be scared by the rust on the front end, it's only around £150 for new; front panel, wings and A panels.
your scuttle seems pretty solid so you could just patch it and probably get new closures ( £8 each )...it's around £40 for a new scuttle or £105 for a heritage one
i have been told that you can buy the outer, inner sills and sub frame mounting panels ready welded together in a box section or a half floor pan with the sills already on it...............but sills are very cheap to buy ( around £15 i think)
with regards to the rest of the rust, if a panel has a rusty spot or bubbly paint, it might as well be shot all over as it will all need replacing any way, so don't be put off
it took us 3 or 4 full working days ( 8 am to 5 pm ) in total to strip the car down.......taking things off is the easy part
as regards to the finished spec, i am going for very close-to-standard factory production.......so pretty much how i got it, minus the rust
i will be keeping the gold wheels as i don't really want to spend lots of money on new ones and they suit the cherry red body colour
1038 stage one engine
standard original interior but with a small speaker system hidden away
original colour...pearlescent cherry red, gold super lights, original style special arches and maybe two square spot lamps up front
Cheers for the feed back and good luck with your project

Looking great

well i have been pretty good with the costs so far, the car was £950 and i have spent around £750 so far and i am aiming to get it all finished for under £2000...............i'd rather not have answered that one...it's made me think of all the money i have thrown away
Cheers for the support and good luck with your mini
