Ripspeed Cmr 2000 And Those Mp3 Thingies!

I was given a Ripspeed CMR 2000 head unit as my other unit had died.
It all seems to work ok (although I've since found out they can be a bit dodgy) except for I can't get it to play MP3s via the USB.
Apparantly it should take input from a USB flashstick (memory stick thing).
I formatted the drive and then copied over some music files (their definately MP3's).
Put the memory stick in and expected the Foo Fighters to come blaring out........BUT nothing.
The headunit display just shows "NO FILE"
I took the stick out and tried it on my PC and Xbox and the files are definately there.
Any ideas??

the cmr2000 is the WORST unit i have ever sold! we get about 3-4 a week in returns... just keep your reciepts and return to your halfords store, if its within 28 days, halfords might (managers discretion) exchange for a better unit. stick to pioneer or alpine chaps!
That's from a quick google search about the unit from a forum. It wasn't the only damning review of this head unit. If I were you I'd just be happy with the radio on it (if that works)

As I said It was given to me for nowt and I'm more than happy with free stuff!

Thing is, it does actually well with all the other functions.
AND it appears its not just my headunit either.
Just tried it on a mates stereo and thats the same (his is a top notch Blaukpunkt) so I'm assuming it must be something to do with the coding of the MP3 's or something

Sounds to me like you should look at how your memory stick is initialized. It may be that the problem is not whether it recognizes the individual song files but rather that it is not recognizing the memory stick itself.

Not sure- cant even be sure whether formatting is the problem- but the manual should tell you about the formatting for the stick. If you dont have it, you can probably find it with Sir Google.

could always try re-formatting and putting some different music on there.

I re formatted the USB Stick its still FAT32.
The tracks are definately MP3's and it still won't work!
So I'm just gonna give up!
And go back to 8 track cassette tapes!

I doubt the issue would be with the file as all mp3's have the same encoding.

I bought one of these http://www.auto-care...-unit-deh-140ub Which seems to be ok!
Just need some decent speakers now as they distort with the bass!

I know it's hard when you are young and the income is small, but it's best to wait, save and buy something of quality instead of buying something you can afford right that second which fails you.

Classic case of 'Buy cheap, pay Twice'.

Cheap!! It was free, can't get any cheaper (I am a notorious scrooge ALL year!)
Young! I'm 42

To be honest its not a bad sound, just cruddy build quality!
If I was looking at spending money then I would have researched to find a good deal\quality product. But it was given to me for nowt so I wasn't gonna complain.
But the Pioneer I bought is fine. Just a bit too much for my speakers so I'll need to find something more suitable.
I'm not after a big thumping bass system (bit of a waste really) just reasonable quality and a reasonable price. I don't want anything too expensive in the Mini, as it will be on display a lot and I don't really want to attract the thieving element.
Oh for the days when the best sound I got was from an old Sharp tape system, a Goodmans graphic equalizer and a pair of old house speakers (still in their wooden housings!), used to be quite loud and give a superb quality!
