Hope someone a bit more tesch savvy than me can help.

I was given a Ripspeed CMR 2000 head unit as my other unit had died.

It all seems to work ok (although I've since found out they can be a bit dodgy) except for I can't get it to play MP3s via the USB.

Apparantly it should take input from a USB flashstick (memory stick thing).

I formatted the drive and then copied over some music files (their definately MP3's).

Put the memory stick in and expected the Foo Fighters to come blaring out........BUT nothing.

The headunit display just shows "NO FILE"

I took the stick out and tried it on my PC and Xbox and the files are definately there.

Any ideas??

Try some other songs in a different format other than MP3 & see if it recognises them.

the cmr2000 is the WORST unit i have ever sold! we get about 3-4 a week in returns... just keep your reciepts and return to your halfords store, if its within 28 days, halfords might (managers discretion) exchange for a better unit. stick to pioneer or alpine chaps!

That's from a quick google search about the unit from a forum. It wasn't the only damning review of this head unit. If I were you I'd just be happy with the radio on it (if that works)

Yeah I know, I've seen the reports!

As I said It was given to me for nowt and I'm more than happy with free stuff!

Thing is, it does actually well with all the other functions.

AND it appears its not just my headunit either.

Just tried it on a mates stereo and thats the same (his is a top notch Blaukpunkt) so I'm assuming it must be something to do with the coding of the MP3 's or something

I have never owned a cmr2000 but it must be a quality unit if it refuses to play foofighters.

Sounds to me like you should look at how your memory stick is initialized. It may be that the problem is not whether it recognizes the individual song files but rather that it is not recognizing the memory stick itself.

When I went to format the stick, the only option I was given was FAT32, is that right? or is there a 'generic' code?

And whats wrong with the Foo Fighters??

Could be worse I have go the Terence Trent D'arby album somewhere! :gimme:

Just yanking your chain about the Foo Fighters.

Not sure- cant even be sure whether formatting is the problem- but the manual should tell you about the formatting for the stick. If you dont have it, you can probably find it with Sir Google.

You will only be able to format it as a fat32 because of the memory size. And the file system should be fine for any headunit. so.. are you sure there mp3's?

could always try re-formatting and putting some different music on there.

Cheers folks for the replies.

I re formatted the USB Stick its still FAT32.

The tracks are definately MP3's and it still won't work!

So I'm just gonna give up!

And go back to 8 track cassette tapes! ;D

Have you got the mp3's in sub folders on the memory stick? Try putting a handful of tracks on the 'root' of the memory stick. That's the top level of any drive, so if it shows 'G' (for arguments sake) in My Computer, put them at that level and then try again.

I doubt the issue would be with the file as all mp3's have the same encoding.

Well I solved the issue

I bought one of these http://www.auto-care...-unit-deh-140ub Which seems to be ok!

Just need some decent speakers now as they distort with the bass!

I used to work at Halfords and put it this way.....no customer bought one and it lasted more than 3 months....every single one I sold was either returned or refunded......Ripspeed quality is atrocious

Classic case of 'Buy cheap, pay Twice'.

I know it's hard when you are young and the income is small, but it's best to wait, save and buy something of quality instead of buying something you can afford right that second which fails you.

Cheap!! It was free, can't get any cheaper (I am a notorious scrooge ALL year!)

Young! I'm 42 :proud: But thanks

To be honest its not a bad sound, just cruddy build quality!

If I was looking at spending money then I would have researched to find a good deal\quality product. But it was given to me for nowt so I wasn't gonna complain.

But the Pioneer I bought is fine. Just a bit too much for my speakers so I'll need to find something more suitable.

I'm not after a big thumping bass system (bit of a waste really) just reasonable quality and a reasonable price. I don't want anything too expensive in the Mini, as it will be on display a lot and I don't really want to attract the thieving element.

Oh for the days when the best sound I got was from an old Sharp tape system, a Goodmans graphic equalizer and a pair of old house speakers (still in their wooden housings!), used to be quite loud and give a superb quality!

How big is your memory stick? In soms cases the headunit can't read larger stucks, I had the same problem with my old car, put in a 4 gig stick, no problem, put in a 8,16, 32 gig stick and your screwed, didn't matter if I was full or empty. Some head units are programmed up to a sertain size especially older models.
