I'm still sitting here in sunny Palm Springs, CA. My new turbo system is waiting for me in Oregon. We're planing on heading back to Oregon in a week. I'll drop my engine off at Dans on the way home for the new mods and new turbo install.

I'm back home and ready to go to work with my turbo install. On the way home I dropped my engine off at my engine builder's to re-do the top end. He's swapping out the 13 to 1 1400 cc kit and ported head with 425 cams for stock 1300 bore and lower comp. turbo pistons. Also swapping the carpenter head for stock head with better springs and cams that match the turbo. I already have carrillo rods and a Vance and Hines cam chain.
In the mean time I will start mocking up everything with my dummy engine.
Pictures to follow.

1st issue, The exit pipe from the turbo and waste gate won't work. The down turn heads straight into a frame rail. So tomorrow I'll change it to exit straight out.

I made a new straight Turbo exit pipe. Then did a rough pre-fab of where the muffler will go.

I got my engine back, installed it yesterday and fired it up. I just let it idle at about 2000 for 3 or 4 minutes as per my engine builder's instructions. Let it cool and ran it a bit again. I love the new carbon fiber muffler, has a really nice sound to it. No leaks anywhere, so far so good. Keep your fingers crossed.
Today I'll finish hooking everything up for the turbo.
Pictures later.

Engine's all done. Went through a few more warm up cycles, then changed the oil and took it out for a drive. I didn't get on it hard as it needs to go on the dyno yet but boy does it feel good. I think this time around is going to be a winner.

Looks clean but one question. How does your waste gate work. Usually the come directly off the exhaust before the turbo. The way it is in there it looks like it is just recirculating the exhaust after the turbo. Does it hook into the turbo's original internal waste gate or something? it has me confused.

That looks a very tidy setup. Going to enjoy hearing how it turned out for you on track..

I have never seen a waste gate before the turbo. I have always seen them after it, usually in the exhaust pipe after the turbo, so I can only say it works

Unfortunately it's going to be a bit. My Dyno shop is booked solid until the 23rd.

I've been driving it around some, not getting on it hard but just making sure there were no problems. So far no leaks, good oil pressure, staying cool, and running really rich. So knowing I am safe being rich I nailed it today. 9 lbs of boot which is just perfect. Man this baby pulls, much better than I remember my 1st turbo engine. I am pleased. Next time out I'll hook up the camera.
