I got my new on-board fire extinguisher today and started installing it. I didn't go with Halon as it's almost impossible to re-fill a halon system in the US because it's considered a bad "Green House Gas". Instead I went with AFFF foam, not the old corrosive blood foam but the new synthetic foam that is water soluble and non corrosive. 2.3 lb bottle with one nozzle in the cockpit and two in the engine bay.

A lot of my friends called me a Lunatic for building such a light weight car with so much power so the name just stuck.

I lost 1 and 3 cylinders last time out. Did a compression check and all 4 are even. I have a spare motor so one by one I have changed everything on the engine. Plugs, coils, checked cam timing and the alternator key way. Changed injectors, Cam timing sensor, crank timing sensor, you name it, I changed it.

I figure there has to be something lose in the wiring harness some where. I have been using a custom made harness which I never liked, it's just a mess.

So out with the old and in with the new. I am going with a whole new system, the Microsquirt ECU made by Megasquirt. This will eliminate the Hayabusa ECU and the Dyno Jet power commander. It will control ignition and timing, and fuel curve. I have a friend using Megasquirt on his car and he will be helping me with the installation. We have a basic MAP we have down loaded into the software that hopefully will be good enough to get it running. Then back to the dyno shop for the final tune. I'll post pictures later when it's installed.

I've had it with turbo's. I just wasted my 3rd turbo. No one can figure out why, but I just lost the seals again and oil is just going through the turbo out the exhaust pipe. So time for a new way of thought.
My early gen 1 Hayabusa made 150 something HP with out the turbo, 252 hp with the turbo. There are several engine kit makers in America who offer different bore and stroker packages. Being the early gen 1 Hayabusa I have the low 11 to 1 comp pistons so the 1st change will be a 84mm bore kit with 13 to one pistons. This will give me 1397 CCs. Then a re-worked head with CNC porting and bigger cams. I'm not decided on the cam specs yet but will be something around 425 lift.
Out of all the engine package vendors in America I think I'll go with a company called Carpenter Racing. They have all the latest CNC machinery and do everything in house. The biggest thing I like about them is their willingness to accommodate my wishes.
While most companys only sell parts and leave all assembly work up to the owner Carpenter Racing will do extras for ne like set the valve lash, pre-degree the cams as close as they can with out the head being bolted on the engine, and they gave me all specs for the new header I will be making. 1.75 primarys 19 inches long. My weld up header kit arrives today so I'll have a few hours of fun ahead of me.
Carpenter Racing claims this package will give me 230 dependable HP which is a good compromise I can live with eliminating the troublesome turbo.
Pictures to follow.

Sounds like a good plan there Birdman. Did you consider strapping a Rotrex Supercharger to it? Plenty of them been done in the UK and no need for oil lines to the engine.

Thank you, I looked at it and talked to Richard on the phone, something to think about. Looks like a pretty nice kit.

I have been following their development of Rotrex Chargers for the Honda K20 on the 8thCivic forum in the US and then I stopped to chat with them at the Autosport show in January and had a good look around the stand and the products, I have to say they make some really good kits. They have loads of options for the Busa engine as well, stroker kits, plenums etc....If I were to go with a Rotrex Kit I would definitely use these guys.
