Hi all,
My heater is currently out of the car and i am wanting to give it a flush through before i put it back. I've read that you can use a hose to flush it through but how exactly do i do this? Do i just connect it up to the inlet and watch all the rubbish come out the outlet?

Many Thanks

Yeah pretty much. Just connect a garden hose to the inlet using a jubilee clip and then a connect a spare length of hose to the outlet with another jubillee clip and place the other end of that hose in a bucket. Turn on the hose and watch all the brown gunge and debris fill the bucket. When the water runs clear then you're all done. If you want to be extra thorough, you then can swap the hoses over afterwards and reverse flush as well.

Just be sure not to turn the garden hose fully on, as I discovered the matrix cannot handle full mains water pressure and you will probably blow holes in it!! >_<

I flushed mine with the heater still in the car, by connecting the garden hoses to the heater circuit at the bulkhead, (see below) But you can still apply the same technique by connecting the hoses directly to the heater inlet/outlet with the heater out of the car.

Yes pretty much, obviously you need to have the rad out of the car to in order to flush it and there's no connecting up with jubilee clips either. Just feed the end of the garden hose in through the filler neck of the rad, then flush and let the water drain out until it runs clear. Then turn it upside down and feed the water hose into the outlet at the bottom hose of the rad and reverse flush, letting the water drain out of the filler neck. Simples!!

EDIT: Also try holding the rad horizontal in both hands then tipping to 45 degrees with the filler cap on and pointing downwards. Then try and half fill the rad up with water through the bottom hose outlet, now push the palm of your hand firmly against the bottom outlet to seal it, then give the rad a good shake end to end a few times, (this can help disturb some of the debris and sediment that has built up inside) then release your hand and pour out the water, before flushing again with a garden hose.
