There where some pictures up a while ago of a head that had been modified so that the inlets ports went through the rocker cover and straight down to the top of the inlet valves but I've never seen a 5 port head turned into a 7.

that sounds like what im talking about, didnt it have 4 ports across the front though? i thought there were 4 tubes fitted into the head, one going to each of the inlet valves, making it a 7 port?

This is a Manx 7-port
http://mk1-forum.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3421&p=24170&hilit=manx#p24170
although the one I have had in my hands just had enormouse inlet ports to enable the inlet manifold to fit, rather than a true 7-port.
I have been told that some 7-port Manx heads did have split ports, but I'm not sure it's true.
There is also the Speedwell 7-port (but this is based on a smallport casting)

it definately had the ports on the front, poking up at something like 45degrees, through the rocker cover
what are the inlet ports on that manx like then?

I used to have some pics of the head inlets of one of these but lost them in a HD incident
the manifold has a square "stub" that fits into the head, also the ports are very high, and they are indeed split in a similar way to the speedwell head above.

oh bum! i think im going to have to reside myself to not finding this!
i have spent hours on google now tryting to find the one im talking about,
it was defianately a modified 5 port head, that had steel tubes inserted down the machined holes.
someone else on here bought up the issue of how would you "fix" the steel tubes to the cast iron head?
and someone else mentioned using some kind of modern resin type goop like they use to bond morgan aluminium chassis together etc.
please someone say this is ringing a bell?

normally mods like this are Brazed,
interestingly, I have glued up my exhaust ports where I broke through into the push rod holes, apparently used the same stuff they stick the tiles to the space shuttle...

Or this...

Because they all only have 5 ports
