Thanks minimuk - I take great pride in doing things myself......The money I save in doing so is merely incidental :whistling:

Hi Folks,

I had a trip down to Moss Europe at Manchester for parts for my MGB the other day. Whilst I was there I picked up their new catalogue for the Mini. Just to say I found this a gold mine of information - as well as being an excellent illustrated parts list it has loads of very useful information: Identification nos. for the various engines, heads and camshafts, etc; formula for calculating engine capacity; camshaft timing guide; etc etc.

I'm relatively new to Minis and glad that I've found a concise guide to the multitude of parts variants fitted to Minis over the years (although its maybe not very comprehensive). You can order one for free via their website.

Bob

Hi Folks,

Not much of an update but just a couple of photos showing some recent mods:

Upgraded performance with 1275GT stripes :whistling::

Bought a new pressed ali number plate - so much nicer than the black on yellow (but not sure if its legal for a '77 car? :shy:)

The engine is getting worse in terms of burning oil through the valve guides. So much so that one of the plugs regularly oils up and won't spark, so I need to take it out and clean it to get the engine running properly. Next big step is therefore to get the engine out over xmas and get the head sorted as well as replace the oil pump, bearing shells, piston rings, etc.

That's it for now, thanks for looking!

Needs to be a pre 73 tax exempt car for silver and blacks, however only a car fan would know that so you may get away with it.

Looking sweet! The GT stripes certainly helps to finish her off, get the chrome strip for the top of the door and she'll be perfect. If you want a clubby that can legally have the black and silver plates then I can sell you one!

Yet another thread that I've totally missed. Great rebuild and well documented, some great reference photos here.

That plate wouldn't last a day in my neck of the woods without being tugged by the police.

Nice looking GT

Buy a car to go with the number plate??? Hehe... Thanks mate, but I'm pretty sure you won't be selling Fixerupper any time soon - the work you're doing on the front end looks fantastic!

iMurray, Bushy Trader, MR J - Thanks for the kind comments/advice. I guess I should keep the old yellow number plate for MoT time :shy: - unless I get pulled up before of course :ohno:

Cheers bob, your mini is helping me to keep going! I'm working on making brackets just now for the metro radiator. Proving a bit of a headache (on about 4th or 5th version) but getting there. Will post up some pics very shortly, if I can get out of the bed and get to the garage that is! I won't be selling her, even my better half has said she's not for sale!

I don't believe I've read through this thread properly before, it's a fantastic reference point.

Lovely looking thing as well.

Bob, I'm totally in awe of your skills ! I wish I even had the space to do what you're doing, my 1275 GT lives in a council lock up with no power or light. As you know I've started dismantling mine, but the body work will have to be farmed out.
All the little touches you've done yourself are a real credit to you !
Tony
