Hi
I am just double checking about this.

I am about to install the gearbox onto my engine (850cc). Is the recommended method to run grease along the gaskets which go between the engine/gearbox, and engine/transfer case?

I guess if that if RTV was used I would never be able to get them apart in the future.

I think that RTV on the half moon seal at the camshaft end cant hurt?
Cheers

correct, don't use RTV on any gasket, run a beed of RTV around the front main cap and then sit the 1/2 moon seal on it, run a similar bead of RTV around the mating face on the gearbox.

Using grease on the gasket does not clog the gasket up, it is a porous material which will use the grease and oil from the transmission to provide a fluid tight seal, like corking if you're a boat builder...

silicone on the C seal will be fine, just be careful any excess can't block any oilways

Great

Also, is using Hylomar Blue gasket sealant on the half moon rubber seal OK? Or must it be RTV?

I used a Hylomar sandwich on the gasket and rtv around the seal, hylomar does not set and will allow you to dismantle
