Hi all

Mini's exhaust has a hole in it (sad times) sooo time for a new one. Just wondering which one to get really.

I've seen the usual original exhausts on minispares but i was wondering if an RC40 twin box with manifold would
1. fit onto an unmodified 998cc engine
2. if anyone can suggest or recommend any other exhausts?

Thank youuu

Was that without any mods to the engine etc?

An RC40 single will fit no problem....I had it on a 998, but it is / was a little loud.

I haven't heard a twin but it is said to be quieter and in the future I would do as you have said and get a twin as it's only marginally more. I'm not sure though, but there maybe less room with a twin (tighter under the floor) but hopefully others can comment.

Do you have a cone at the back of your carb? If so mine is very loud too - I prefer the stock filter housing.

ive got a stage 1 kit from mini spares which has the rc40. i cant fault it. it still looks very good as its a bit bigger than the pea shooter the exhaust note is slightly louder and it has a bit more throat. performance upgrade was very noticeable in my 998 you will however need to buy a new manifold if youve got a 998 a maniflow freeflow works very well or a lcb if its a 1275. but to be honest id get the mini spares stage as you know it all goes together and you get everything you need.

RC40 all they way my friend, ive only ever had the standard exhaust so i cant speak for the others, but the rc40 sounds awsome, not too loud in the car when your cruzing, but when you put the hammer down it sounds great, get a little more power from the engine too, plus if you get the stainless one it will last much longer then a mild steel one :)

make sure you get the twin box side exit, but you may well find the car noisier inside
by fitting after market exhausts

Another vote for RC40 here. Go for the twin box version if you're worried about noise, but the single box version really isn't that loud. As previously mentioned you will also need to get a new exhaust manifold (preferably the Maniflow Freeflow item on a 998) to fit an RC40. The original manifold is a single casting that is joined to the inlet manifold though, so that means that you will also need a new separate inlet manifold too. By which time you only need a high flow air filter and richer needle and you have yourself a full stage 1 kit.

There is the other option of fitting an RC40 to a 998 yet retaining your original manifolds, by fitting a "magic pipe" http://www.minispare...id=37358&title=

However one of the main benefits of fitting an after market exhaust manifold, (LCB, Freeflow etc.) is that you get to do away with the god awful standard exhaust/down pipe joint/clamp and all it's associated leaks. With the magic pipe you still retain that joint/ clamp and all it's problems. >_<

Thanks for all your feedback...definately investing in an RC40!
With the stage 1 kit can you literally bolt all the bits on without changing anything in the engine...read somewhere that an engine rebuild is necessary to put a stage 1 on? :/

Heres one i found earlier! I'm guessing the manifold with that kit is the one you need
