My Turbo Clubman - Toyota 4E-Fte

I figured id finally share my build on the forums as im on here nearly every day.
Just a quick overview. I am putting a Toyota 4EFTE engine from an EP91 Toyota Glanza/Starlet into an Australian Mini Clubman. I will be maintaining the look and feel of the mini in regards to suspension, handling and braking. A lot of parts will be replaced with brand new ones like red dot rubber cones, gaz shocks and upgrading the brakes to 8.4" 4 pot calipers and vented disks.
I started this build back in 2009 but decided to do a 4EFTE conversion in 2010. I purchased the front cut from a local Japanese importer who was happy to ship one in straight from Japan. This conversion has been done a lot here in Australia and is a fairly easy engine to work with. Unlike the US there are a lot of restrictions on modifications to vehicles if they are to be road worthy and im sure its the same in the UK, and this engine is within these restrictions, once the engineer has approved of them of coarse. The standard 4EFTE is a 4cyl turbo-charged engine for those who dont know. It puts out 130hp / 100kw.
A little bit more about things to come:
The mini will sit on 12x6 Black Mamba rims tucked under modified Group 6 Huddersfield wheel arches.
As already mentioned. 8.4" 4-pot calipers with vented disks.
Honda Prelude seats inside. Everything else is pretty much mini standard.
The standard 4EFTE intercooler setup will be replaced by a Water to Air system.
I have installed a oil relocation kit. A must do!
The alternator has been replaced by a smaller Daihatsu Charade type.
There will be a layshaft bolted to the engine block from a Toyota Corolla AE101, to minimize torque steer
I will be installing a Quaife LSD also.
The standard 35L fuel tank will be used with a 400hp external fuel pump.
Heres the front cut the day i bought it.
The 4efte in the engine bay for the first time
The subframe in progress
Subframe self supporting the engine
The 90% complete subframe
My custom dash using the Glanza odometer
Custom dump pipe and exhaust system
Majority of the ancillaries installed. Master cylinders, air filter, w2a intercooler setup, recirculated BOV etc.
The current state of the shell. De-seamed pillars.
For more information and pictures on the build, i have made up my own blog. Have a look if you wish.

I had some trouble deciding on a color as I didn't want something that common but still a 70s solid. Originally was going to go orange and black but orange seems to be the 'in' color at the moment.
So im pretty sure I've decided on Aqua and black.
I ran into another issue just last week tho in getting the BLVC60 Aqua paint. PPG makes it in a deltron direct gloss but I really just want the base color. Another color which is almost identical is the Holden/GM Aquarius. That comes in an autothane base coat at more than half the price of the deltron dg.
It's the color of the classic Australian icon the Holden HX Sandman.
Anywho enough blabbering.. Just thought I'd share my findings.

So I was just told by a mate that the videos weren't working. I've now fixed the problem.
Also I've been doing a lot of body prep and it's definitely not the funnest job around. Block sanding and knife puttying. I'll post some photos soon.

The picture doesnt really depict its true colour. It looks really blue but in real life its quite green. Those who have seen the Mini's Aqua would know what i mean.

few questions: did u just use the wiring loom from the front cut of the starlet i take it? what about driveshafts? i might be tempted back into mini ownership or atleast do something different with my mk2 fiesta and drop one of these lumps in there for the giggles manly because my mate has a 350 bhp starlet gt turbo and that runs around virtually everything near me

I used as much of the starlet front cut as possible. This included the wiring loom and the odometer. As for the driveshafts i have used the starlet spline on one side and the mini side on the other. I know that other people have had brand new driveshafts machined and turned up but i used the existing driveshafts, measured them, cut them up, then had them pinned and welded.
A mini with a 4EFTE will go a lot harder than your mates! so go for it!
Heres a pic of the current build up. Getting lazy at taking pictures of progress but am focusing more on getting a lot more work done. Ignore the sun peaking in the corner!!
