And don't let the head gasket stuff put you off. Mention MG or Rover to anybody that's never owned one and they'll say 'headgasket'. If you get one that's been looked after it'll be fine.

I'd say your pretty much guarenteed to have to do a head gasket at some point in it's life. Most garages don't like doing them as they don't want any comebacks.

Not great cars really, but look OK (for a Rover) and are very cheap.

I have an oval janspeed exhaust on mine with the standard middle box still in as the cat back was a little 'drony' (if thats a word) at motorway speeds. With the standard middle box in it sounds really nice now, deep crisp sound but not too loud with a nice little burble on tick over. I also have a pipercross induction kit though which makes all the difference too

Definately recommended.

He means he's using the standard centre section as the aftermarket 'cat back' was too noisy with the Janspeed back box!

Believe it or not, the original ZR exhaust system was a re-worked Rover 25 one to gain a few more bhp, not just a chrome tail pipe! :D

Yup as Boycie said, sorry i wasn't clear. I bought a cat back system but decided to use the standard mg middle box with the janspeed backbox as it was quieter than using the janspeed middle box.

I had a ZR but was a while back, never had any issues with it whatsoever, ran fine and enjoyed it, I can't tell you how it handled as that kinda stuff never concerned me at the time but my mate got one a few months back on my recommendation as his wife had a rover 200 beforehand and wanted the same 'type of car' he never had any problems either, so in a nutshell with me I'd say a thumbsup definitely
