Was speaking to an old friend a couple of weeks a go whilst up in Scotland he built one
a lot of years ago !
check out cmroad&race website pictures on there

Ah that sounds very familar. I'm sure I've bought a few mini parts from him in the past. He has a stunning black mini with a full race tuned A Series and cares for a Austin Healey race car I believe it is?
Yes the black mini!!!! first one I painted black back in about 1965ish Happydays its probably been redone quite a few times by now
The one in my profile was mine met green with black roof

I met him about a month or so ago. I've never seen a minis engine bay so shiny!! We got talking a bit about this converison too. Great guy!

Stoneface, what you said about the crossflow fitting a roundnose without body mods was just what I was hoping to hear! Thinking about a future project, where I was going to go turbodiesel, but perhaps not. I need to refresh my memory about Ford engines. From what I do remember, the 1500 (1498cc) was over-square and therefore capable of high revs, but that was pre-crossflow. So a crossflow head on a 5 bearing 1500 block (in any case shorter than a 1600) might be a real screamer, if such is possible.

But what about the later engines like the CVH (said to be very rough) and the Zetec? I have rebuilt a Kent 1500 a very long time ago, in my Old Man's Cortina MK 2 (quite a decent car actually), and it is a nice engine in many ways, but I have no experience of the later ones or whether their interface to the transmission is even similar.

I do have a 1500cc block machined ready for a lotus conversion. Think its a 2731 6015 block with 5 bearings and round caps. Not looked at it for years so going by memory.

The CVH engine can also be fitted but it was not a very good engine imo and is also better suited to a clubman. Just my opinion as I had a CVH escort and never liked the engine.

I'm pretty sure the zetec and DBA would fit but don't take my work for it.

A good source for ford engine info is Burton Power

I will get an engine build thread started if people would like to see this take shape?

It will probably only be updated once a week, but I really want to get going now. I wasn't sure whether to go Crossflow or Lotus Twin Cam... well it's going to be Lotus Twin Cam with twin Webbers as I have got a head now!! :D

Quick picture with it all just sitting in place. I'm not too sure what colour I want to do it all though. The cam cover is already with my mate and that is going gloss black with the Lotus on both sides purple, so I'm thinking purple block and black head and gearbox.

I will be following progress with considerable interest.

I assume the intake trumpets will be sticking out the front? Good for collecting air, but also good at ingesting dirt. Or is it going in a Clubman?

Might be my eyes, but isn't the block on back to front there?

I'll get a proper build thread going when I get some time in the evening. Still loads to do, but most of the big stuff I've got now. I've had the head all professionally checked and that's all good, got the valves, springs etc ready. Pick up the cam cover from my mates work on Monday. Need cams though which is the next main part needed, then lots of small things. Can't wait to have it all painted though.

Will be in a clubby front.

You're probably right haha, I'm not sure. Just put it all on top of each other for a quick pic while I was in the garage :P

Looking good but yes block is on back to front :)

Even in a Clubman those trumpets will stick out the front.... they are huge.

Will be following this with interest... give us a shout if you need any help.

Haha yeah don't worry about the trumpets, they were ones I already had in the garage, think they're for 45s hence not fitted properly. I did get four shorter ones with the carbs but need a bloody good polish.

Only difference I can see is my block has been machined off on the left side edge obviously to make room for the starter.
