If it's faster when jumping then it's just getting a higher voltage to the starter.

I could be wrong but I wouldn't think it had anything to to with an earth.

How are you connecting the jumping car upto your mini? directly to the solonoid? also to eliminate the earth, connect the earth from a clean bit of body metal to the battery, if it cranks faster just by that its a good indicator the earths bad

Where are you putting the negative jump lead?

Hi,
If the battery voltage drops from about 12v to next to nothing when you turn on something like the headlights, then it has developed an internal resistance. The battery must be replaced.
If the battery voltage drops to less than 10V while cranking, the battery needs charging or it needs to be replaced.
If the battery voltage drops to no less than 10V while cranking but the engine does not start, the the battery connections and earth connections are poor. They must be cleaned or replaced.

Hope that helps,
Ivan

the battery is a nominal 12v. A lead/acid cell is 2.2v, so a fully charged battery is 13.2v. So a reading of 12.2v, means the battery is at least partially flat.

Take your battey out and connect the doner battery if all ok your battery is nackered

Put your battery on charge overnight if after charging the needle has not reached zero
give it to the scrap man

To answer your original question, your battery may be at fault!

I would replace the battery with the one out of the other car and see how that goes. If that doesn't work still then it clearly isn't your battery !

And actually, the term mong is utterly offensive!

It refers to people with Down Syndrome!

If you were so clever you would know this

Well if it works jumping it, it should start with the doner battery as i say try charging yours and keep an eye on the charging
