a bit petty this, but can you guys confirm for me that the exacton alloys fitted to 1100 specials and the 80s sprites etc, were made in the uk? im pretty sure it says they are uk made in the back?

my mate at work was insistant that he couldnt get nuts for them as they were italian made. i did however buy a set of nuts brand new off ebay a few months back so thats not true either.

exacton wheels were made in the uk, i have 2 mint sets of them, and the nuts are still available from a couple of places, some people think that the nuts are the same as the later sleeved nuts but they are not, the nuts for the exacton wheels are slimmer!!

Here is the proof....

And the nuts..

I was given these wheels 2 years ago because the wheel nuts were no longer available...It took me 8 months of searching but I eventually found a set of nuts. Cost me £35 and I was told they were the last original set available in the UK...Im glad you can get them again now...A lot of these wheels are being split rimmed by Force Racing I believe..

those nuts arent original, the mini special nuts were never domed on the end as they were covered with the plastic black caps, they look like cooper alloy wheel nuts to me and they must have been shaved down to enable them to be fitted to the exacton alloys or something, but as long as they fit who cares....... :proud:

thanks guys, i used to have a set of these alloys years ago and was sure i has seen it in the back of the casting!

the nuts in the picture are the same ones i got last year for my mk1 metro turbo alloys, i got them from some guy on ebay who lived in erdington i think, he stocked tons of usefull bits!

if the nuts really were unavailable, it wouldnt be a big job to have the nuts turned from some hex bar, drilled and tapped, and the washers made from some bar on a lathe

Exacton wheels...made by Aluminium Bronze co. ltd, Wallows Lane, Walsall, Staffs.

I also have Exacton 10 x 5's... made up until about 1971.

I believe Dunlop did sort of copy them...When Exacton went out of business in early 1971, Dunlop started supplying wheels for the Bond Bug.
