Can anyone tell me in what year of production interior door pull cables were replaced with door handles? I have a Mini brochure dated 1965 and the cables are shown in the interior picture. Any help would be appreciated.

From memory they changed in 1968 with the Mk.2 Mini. The Coopers never had door pull strings. My first wife had a '67 850 and that certainly had 'string'.

Spot on! I don't know how many times the chrome lever has snapped due to some passengers not quite getting how to open the door.....I think I'd be better with the string!

I've found the string to be worse - genuine replacements seem to be harder to find too !!!
(IIRC Supers and Super Deluxe also had handles and not strings)

The 'Door Pull Cable/Strings' are all part of the unique character of early Mini's..............although I always used to convert to the aftermarket chrome tubular handles with a wood effect knob on the end as they did not snap like the BMC levers. The advantage of the 'strings' was they are in the right place 'ergonomically to hand' and you don't have to twist round to find them like the levers...............disadvantages when they break below!

DOOR PULL CABLE ALTERNATIVE TO GLZ119 FOR MK1/2
Description
Although most early cars with sliding windows have metal interrior handles this is the original cable type. Originally deleted because of frequent breakage and safety reasons it has been made available again for the purists. Owners were often left with a broken cable in their hands and the door being blown open as far as the check strap would allow often catching passers by and cyclists,or other vehicles causing damage to all.
