Don't forget that if someone had a reasonable intelect they probably could have a decent job and not have to resort to stealing. While some thieves are perhaps quite smart, there's probably a lot more that are as thick as two short planks.
I don't know how common those exhaust pipes are but for one to be for sale in the area that a stolen mini has been found with one missing from looks very suspisious.

To OP: Best of luck getting your stuff back and I hope the baddies get what's coming to them.
