There are safe maxima where you know that whatever the manufacturing tolerances, so long as the blocks are within tolerance they will bore to that size.
Beyond that there is a risk the boring may go through the nwater jacket and thus scrap the block.
Do you want the maximum safe sizes, or the sizes that have been achieved on some blocks which had an optimum tolerance?

Its how far you want to go aswell, I only know about 1275 engines but you can go over 1400 with them, but I think anything over 1293 you have to offset the bores of the cylinders because the distance berween the bores gets so small itll crack, but for this you need off set cranks and funky ass pistons lol
Sure its gotta be simalar for your engine, ie having a max size before offseting.
I was supprised how much boreing costs, I was thinking bout 2-3 hundred. Got mine done to 1293 for a 1er plus vat!
Wondering off topic now. Hope this helps

Well the only reason I am asking is because i may be able to get an austin 1100 and was wondering how much it could be bored out to, but i have been speaking to someone who has told me that i need a 1380, so i am a bit stuck you see <_<
My dad knows someone who can bore engines so hopefully he will be able to do it for me at a descent price

do you mean you want a 1380 or need one for a race or sumin? Im sure a tuned 1100 would be fun, but if your thinking of building a fast engine why not start with the biggest! Lol. Id have gone bigger if I had the money!

Well its the fact that i can buy a complete austin 1100 for next to nothing with engine gearbox 7.5 disc brakes and so on, its complete to say the least.
A fast road car is what i am aiming to go for.

Best person to speak to (as he is an A-series specialist) is Adrian Dodd. He is a super engine builder making some others I can mention look embarrisingly inferior!

Contact ML Motorsport for the answers you need.

Well funny you should say that ;) The gentleman who is building my engine (well showing me what to do) has a lot of bits left over from his old track mini annoyingly he sold his race engine and jack knight gearbox for £500 2 months ago
