whilst wanting this project to be all new parts i really would struggle to complete it in any less then 50 years!!! ive decided that some parts need to be part used and well a little cheaper.Already ive got myself got a bargai. im absolutley made up with these, they cost me £36.11 ( thanks ebay!!) but apart from the surface rust that to be honest looks hidious, they are in top condition.
Even the pads and disks have hardly been use, i gave them a little rub down mmmmmmmmmmmmmm and notice no marks or wear on them. I still think im going to replace the disks, what do you think? New bearings and seals wil all be installed at a later date
taking them down to Redditch shot blaster and powders coaters tomorrow to get hubs and flanges done in pearl blue.
can calipers be powder coated or does it just peel off with the heat?

Whilst stripping the hubs i had a nightmre with removing the pots. fortunatly i had access to an airline which bloody helped the other option was to get all bent out of shape and start battering them with a hammer!!!
this picture shows the half of a four pot metro caliper and a siezed pot. i soaked them in some solution, blocked off the channel to the other side with some grips and a bit off rag and gradually moved the pots back and forward and eventually the popped out
almost stripped. there were rusty and new pots are on order. stainless steel no more rusty crome things!
ive decided as theres less wait on the front hubs + i want vw wheels that i will get the flanges drilled so that i could use mini or vw/ford wheels!
i also removed the rear flanges which were hard core strong hehehe. i thought i would have to get new rear disk but it turns out they are 100mm pcd disk (pitch circle diametre) which just slipped on leyland 4" offset wahooo! i also measured up my vw bolts on my mk3 golf and took all the hubs down to my mate to get them modified. the rear hubs already have extra holes which will be welded up and 100mm pcd added
this is the rear flanges being removed woth a hydraulic puller

My metro just needs a few little tweaks to finish and then I'm moving this month to a new garage. Then I will crack on and finish my R1 car.
...honest!

just a bit of welding!
and finished result. i had a bit of difficulty gettin into the corner of the curve so i couldnt clean it up very well
covered it in zink 182 ready for stone chip
Cleaning all the glue and foam or what ever it is was hard work and dusty! this is the best way i found
all the inside was rubbed down and zink primered to keep old rusty away or help to anyway and then masked up so none of the stone chip settled on the outside of the car. i could imagine that would be some work trying to removed it all if it had!
this is the inside of the car. Yet again ive run out of paint and buy this time i was flying! The fumes had no where to escape to! (note to self get a ventelator or external oxygen feed! hehehe)
side pod
should get powdercoated bits back at the end of the week if all goes well! £30 to get the hubs modified!
