Its looks OK, but the usual place is utilising the engine steady its right next to. Undo the nut and bolt on the bulk head side of steady attach earth strap, Undo the longer engine side bolt again attach other end of earth strap.
Although in your case I'd just change the bulkhead side attach it to the engine steady. Bit of copper grease helps with keeping it rust free and good contact

Nope I meant starter relay. I always consider ignition to be coil, dizzy, points etc.

This relay is purely for the starter motor circuit on the mid 80's onwards they fitted a relay in the circuit rather than a straight wire from the key to the solenoid,

Minispares , Haynes and Somerfords all list it as a starter relay.

I do actually try and check the info I give

The relay goes like this

black earth , brown 12v in, white/red from key energises, brown/red off to starter solenoid

Well I moved the earth cable to its proper place, the cable i've got is a bit long so had to coil it round a bit but it'll do.

I've also tested the new wiring and relay - The engine turns over without the wiring setting on fire -yay :D

So hopefully thats all sorted now and I can re wrap the loom again - oh joy!

Think i'm only gona fully wrap the bottom half of it where it's likely to get wet from the grill, the rest i'll just bunch up and wrap in spiral wrap I think to keep it neat.

So big thanks to Irostoke and charlie too
