I would wait untill the engine is all bolted in before slapping the carbs on..just makes getting the drive shafts and pot joints seated that much easier..Dont forget to connect the speedo cable as you drop the engine in..its a bugger to connect once the engine is fitted....but as you say, thats a bit further down the road yet...
You really are getting on great with this, hope it gives some of the younger members the confidence to tackle this sort of work...Not that we are old of course....well maybe a bit!!

Yeah see the point bud just trying to save my back, still waiting for the bloody gallery plugs, cheeky buggers have orderd them off mini spares, i could have done that and had the engine in by now, they are going to lend me the engine cradle so i will let them off
i have fitted the water pump with gasket and RTV sealant i had been leaking from the bottom before , it wont now, and i have lapped the pressure plate, have a nice grey dull finish on the taper so jobs a good un photo to follow,
as for having a go why not,it's not rocket sicence is it just the cam timing  i think once you have done 1 you are sorted, next time though if there is a next time i will get all the bits together first, this waiting is doing my sodding head in

Looks like this is coming along more than nicely! Now in the process of getting my first engine/heads/crank e.t.c :D going to go for a fast road 998 to replace the one in my 30 :)

How have you found the build so far? Has it been 'straight forward' so to speak? I imagine once you have stripped it its not to bad to reassemble just need the ordering right?

Keep up the good work :)

Yeah hi bud it's not bad, just hate waiting for parts, i always wanted to re-build an engine, this was a matter of having to, i have had a lot of advice of TMF and glad of it, nothing has stumpped me yet, mind the cam timing might be a little dodgy, but enjoying it, how far are you on , parts at the machine shop
