recently bought this, i got it cheap and was just going to sort it and sell it on, heres how i got it

came with the seats as well, the guy i bought it from was going to rally it, but ended up buying a fully prepped car. its a 1.4 twin cam 16valve, 103 bhp model.

anyway, i had a bit of a tidy up under the bonnet and got a cam cover cover thing from the scrapyard for it.

Posted Image

one of the problems it came with was a sticking throttle, this was due to a naff throttle body, so i fetched another one from the scrap yard, believe it or not, this is how far it opened as standard.

Posted Image

so as you can probably guess, i cut the throttle stop off it, so it now opens fully, lol

Posted Image

fitted it and adjusted the throttle cable accordingly, made quite a bit of difference to performance.

then i decided i werent happy with my seat position, as they were bolted solidly to the floor, and didnt move, so i decided to make them movable, so got a set of standard rover 25 seat subframes from the scrapyard, and modified them to take the bucket seats

Posted Image

im getting there with my welding

Posted Image

next i gave it some harnesses, which were fitted to the mini i had. ill have to change them before i rally it as their not fia spec, but theyll do for messing around on the road.

Posted Image

their currently bolted to the floor pan with the proper spreader plates, and bolted to the rear seatbelt mounts at the moment, although id like to tie them to the roll cage when i get one.

Posted Image

unfortunately regulations wont allow me to strip it out too much, im only allowed to lose the trim in the boot area, rear seat even has to stay, but obviously folded down to allow the roll cage to fit.

then gave it some bonnet pins

Posted Image

Posted Image

added this air filter i had lying around at home, regulations also state i have to run the standard air filter system, but filter materials are free. just put it on to see how it sounded, its got an awesome induction roar, lol!

Posted Image

it didnt have an exhaust on it when i got it, so i fitted a new standard system, albeit i modified the backbox.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

fitted new brake pads, standard material for now, as i needed them urgently, after i put the car through its paces on some twisty singletrack country lanes at night, demonstrating it to a lass who was going to be my co-driver.

when i was fiddling with it one day, i noticed that the fog light wiring was already there, so went to the scrapyard, and got the relevant bits, a switch, relay, foglights and foglight surrounds, fitted it all and hay presto! when i rally it, ill have two proper auxilary lights bolted on the bonnet, these ones are just for on the road, and will have to be removed for when i rally it.

made a few additions to the passengers footwell, lol

Posted Image

and here it is sitting next to the future project.

the exhaust had been blowing for a couple of weeks, due to a naff exhaust flexy, but as the flexy was on the catalytic converter part of the exhaust, a new exhaust section werent cheap, so i bought a length of flexy, £20 for a minimum length of 2 metres, lol, cut the naff flexy out, and welded a new flexy section in, jobdone, sounds quieter now, and goes better, and the new flexys not as "bulky" as the old one.

and a general random pic of underneath, i need to stonechip underneath it one day, lol. But making and mounting the neccesary underguards looks easy enough.

Will the flexy be prone catch on stuff when you take it rallying?
Or is this just a temporary measure?

ill be making a sumpguard, that goes all the way back to the floor, so itll cover it. i only welded that bit in, as the original flexy was blowing, and as its part of the catalytic converter part of the exhaust, its quite expensive to replace, £120, and the bit of flexy ended up costing me £5.

anyway quick update, got some new shoes for it today, as the tyres on the steelies were slick and slippy in the wet, so i got a set of mgzr wheels.

need a wash up.

Posted Image

and a steelie compared to the alloy, lol

Posted Image

wahed them up, and fitted them then went for a drive and got them dirty again, haha!

not sure yet, itll be a while till i get it fully ready, tempted to see how i do on a road rally, but it would be nice to have it done for 2012 lombard rally, need a job first though, lol.

nearly wrote it off big style today on the 'lanes in the dark had a bit of a "fish tail" lol, anyway, ive been doing a lot of long journeys in the 25 lately, and have another long un next week to reims, and the sound systems crud, only 1 out of 2 door speakers work, sounds awful, i like my music, but not too chav and basey.

dug this lot out my citroen today, just need to get the door speakers (sony) and wiring out the citroen for it all, then i think ill stick it in the rover, it can easily be removed when i do rally it.

i think it looks better without those gash badges, then i went n got some paint matched up, mainly as i wanted to repaint my foglight surrounds, as i did paint them flourescent pink, but it looked a bit gay, lol, anyway, bought a few cans, and this is what happened today, lol!

also managed to lose the lower grille mesh last night, had a drive down the lanes i was on last night, and found it at the side of the road so refitted it, and secured it with several cable ties.

Posted Image

strange thing happened as well, whilst i was retrieving the mesh, a guy pulled up infront of me and got out, and shouted "oi" at me, i thought he was going to give me a bollocking, as im normally racing up and down those lanes at quite some speed, quite often too, he walked over to me, and said "ive seen you speeding through these roads" i replied, "yes and?" then he asked if i used to have a black mini, so i said yes, and we had a friendly chat, then he just told me to be careful, said it were nice meeting me, and didnt have a go at me in anyway, and went on his way, he even reversed up to a passing bay to let me past.

and bought a few other things on my travels, including this, which ive got to pick up with my trailer tommorow, but its not going in the rover, ive got something else lined up for it.... ;D
