Just a thought - I've got an old 1970 Clubman Estate and love the practicality of it, but a mate is selling his 1982 min van which I quite fancy.

Has anyone put rear seats in a mini van? Can it be done? Anyone got any pics of the finished article to give me an idea?

Thanks

Watch out for the legalities of putting seats in a van. Also you will need to twll your insurance company otherwise you might be driving uninsured and subject to a section 165

Taken from the net:

(1) Insurance - your insureres may insist on certain standards being met before they will accept carrying more passengers in a vehicle than it was registered to
(2) You will need to modify the licensing conditions (possibly need to have a Vospa inspection)
(3) seats must be of a suitable design & strength - as must the floor anchorages
(4) seat belts and anchorage point s musct be to a strict standard
(5) you would need to be aware that unless you replace a side panel with a window in the event of an accident the emergency services may not be aware (as it won't be obvious) that there are seats inside.

That means nothing with regards to it having rear seats. You are increasing the number of passengers it can carry by 100% an putting seats on a floor which wasnt meant to have seats put on.

It was a very standard mod in the '60's. There were kits available or you could fit Mini-Traveller seats. The floor/load-bed had to be cut away behind the front seats to form the wheel-well and the battery needed re-location. Some even put side windows in, but then the old purchase tax needed to be paid.

Most AA vans had a rear seat for when they could carry passengers of a broken down automobile.............. :proud:
