Was that a pattern bonnet? Mine is exactly the same at the front edge. I might fix up my original and use that as it fits perfectly.

Did the wings change shape a bit between mark1 & 2 and the latest minis? Had the wings changed (1967 van), and now the bonnet gaps are fist-sized, like the first pictures on this thread, with the original bonnet. I was assured they are Heritage wings, but maybe I didn't listen too closely...

When fitting any wing ideally you need the bonnet fitted then you force the wings over as far as you go to get the gap you need. Although I did this the bonnet I had was a poor pattern one and really was bad. I would like to think an original one would have fitted far better.

There is another trick to getting the wing over more.

You will need a helper though

I found trimming the lip on the outer wing where it mounts to the inner wing really helped.

I also used ratchet straps and many many clamps

You can only trim so much of the wing lip back. Th biggest place of issue is the rear of the wing where it curves around the scuttle end. This needs some careful tweaking .

Tig welding rods would be ideal. I know you can get 1.6mm and 2.4mm problem is they come in packs, maybe go to a welding supplies shop see if you can buy any separate,

I bought my welding rods from BOC so there should be a local dealer near you. I used 3.2mm as this gives you plenty of leeway for grinding back. And use oxy acetylene filler rods as they are cheaper.
