Depends on the type of smiths - RVC or RVI...they get their signal off the coil so should work

Sorry - no.older smiths rev counters dont work with any mods to the distributor, later smiths rev counters work off the coil so will work with pretty much all mods
RVI and RVC Smiths rev counters each work off the coil, however those stamped RVI on the face of the tach are "induction loop type". These will not work with elec ignition. Those marked as RVC will. Please be more specific in the type proposed to be purchased - i cannot confirm which type you are buying from that photograph.

It may not work in all cases but on mine it was:
Green and Black to earth
Red to fuse box
Red with trace to dash lights
White and White with trace wired in series with the coil (polarity matters so if it doesn't work the first time, switch the wires)
Red wire from electronic ignition to + on coil
One white wire to - on coil, other to black wire on electronic ignition.
The online description I got it from was using a 123 ignition but works with my Ignitor as well.

I stand by my earlier statement though. If you are buying a Smiths tach and plan on using electronic ignition, buy the RVC type.
