Well, the K-series is sold and gone.

The green mini is currently getting broken for spares to give this project all the running gear etc. Ive bought a 2 piece fibreglass clubman front so I dont need to repair the front valence on the metal front anymore. Hopefully things will progress quicker as weather improves and time etc.

Donor mini broken for spares. So this should progress a bit quicker over the next few months.

Hopefully get it done before IMM, but that means I wont have time to do a full rebuild on everything, so it will be a case of fitting the good used components from my other mini and getting it painted/mot'd and down to IMM this summer.

Possibly do an engine conversion on this in the future once time is less of an issue.

Mate as long as it works thats all that matters. I'm really hoping my clutch holds up as i don't want to start ripping into it. It need to last till Oct then its out with the old engine and in with the new oh and all of the panels and interior etc etc etc.

I just need to sort out this overheating issue. New hg going on with a higher capacity pump, new stat and cap. If that does not fix it then god knows what it is.

Your road trip down will certainly shake the cobwebs out of it. :D

Sounds like it needs a good flush out, not running lean is it? That can cause overheating.

Possibly the rad?

My 1293cc runs a standard rad in fairly poor condition but it seems to be fine cooling wise. Not had any issues with it.

Was just thinking about wether i cut the full grill out of the clubman fibreglass front for cooling, or wether to do afew select holes or maybe just cut out the N/S for the air into rad. Im thinking if i dont cut the full grill section out, it will protect the splash/damp on the distributor etc.

Im going to have to fabricate a custom towbar too as im dragging the trailer tent down to Kent. Camping "upper class" lol

Not running lean and the rad is as clean as a whistle. The pump had play in the bearing and i was not losing water. I will see shortly when i tax him. Strange thing around town and local driving good as gold but on the motorway i need to put the hot air on to keep it at 3/4's/

Bog stock as well.

He will be getting a hotter 1293 next year so i think i will go for a decent rad then.

£75+ order just gone into minispares.

Bit of everything in the order such as estate fuel tank pipe, hif44 throttle cable, gaskets, brake pipe, clips, nuts, timing cover gasket n seal ....etc.....

Either bits I need different to the donor car (saloon) or bits I need to refurbish parts from the donor car. I arent going to have time to carry out a full rebuild on each component, so its just a case of sticking it together, painted and mot'd and hopefully make IMM.

Time is short at the minute, i get 1 weekend per fortnight and thats usually just 1 day. So 2 days a month :o

Money is a little tight too as saving for an house, but also recently changed jobs which will have an impact for a month or two, but will return to normal after that.

Well, rear subframe got a quick wire brush and a coat of black chassis paint.

Brake line fitted front to rear, along with fuel pipe. Rear subframe then fitted, what a nightmare that was. I had to clean the threads in the captive nuts, then the rear mounts needed adjusting to line up, bolts stuck solid. Heat sorted that, but still couldnt get 2 bolts in. It is poly bushed and i couldnt manipulate it anymore, so left the 2 bolts until tomorrow.

Rear subframe on and its on its wheels (rear at least) - after removing tyre and refitting to re-seal :/

Painted bulkhead and dash rails internally, the void where the pedals connect to master cylinders etc. Then fitted pedal box, new master cylinder plate. Lined up the engine steady and welded the bottom engine steady bracket to bulkhead.

Bit of a mixed day, if the subframe wasnt stuck a git, would have got more done. But did get chance to stick some paint on the interior panels so not too bad.

Well

Front subframe fitted, had to drill floor to take the later single bolt subframe.

Engine in and started connectings things up.

Not often you see a 1972 mini with mint metal behind the shocker mounts.

1507188_10153905942255647_1290128575_n.j

Thought id stick this in place and see what i thought. I like the smoothness of the front and I might not fit bumpers etc. Might go for some other indicator units too, as the originals are getting expensive now.

Bonnet too... just sat on roughly

Now do I cut the front to suit my steel A panels or remove my steel A panels?

General pic of the 2 piece front....

Still not sure wether to just get a front panel to repair the metal front end, decisions decisions....

Brakes connected but need bleeding. Clutch fitted and bled. New speedo cable fitted at engine end. Front subframe solid mounted.

Awaiting a pair of track rod ends, battery cable and some bonding/sealer stuff.
