Well firstly what size engine are you putting the HIF44 or twin 1.25" SU's on ?

Also 3in1 oil is exactly what SU use.....

A little history, SU or Skinners Union as it's original name was started life as cycle engineers, they progressed to motorcycle engineers as enginesbecome available, 3in1 oil was designed for cycles and as such is ideal for SU carburettors as it is a single grade oil not a multigrade such as engine oil ie 10w40 etc....

The oil that SU currently sell is as far as I am aware 3in1 or at least the same grade and characteristics :)

Give that man a coconut! He knows his onions!

It is the same with old british motorcycles. You cannot run them on multigrade. They will NEVER run right. You need single grade.
The problem is people think new oils are BETTER.
whilst they may be better for modern cars/ equipment as that is what they are designed for they are not better for the older equipment
The mini was never designed for these things so you best bet is to use the stuff it was built for or oils which are designed for it.

3in1 oil is the best by far for the dashpot
I balanced my carbs myself just over 2 years ago. Never had to rebalance them since. Ive checked them but nothings wrong.
Mke sure the linkage is the same on both sides whilst throttled off etc and make sure the linkage is tight and not binding in the housing. If it is binding take the linkage out and file 1mm off each side until it does not bind when all assembled and tightened.
There should be 1mm of free play.
