Hi Guys,

One of my headlights went a few weeks back and I never got around to changing it, but now the other one has gone, and its generally dark when I leave for work and when I ome home from work, so thought it would be a good idea to get round to changing the bulbs.

Can anyone tell me how to change a headlight bulb in my car? I though it was going to be as simple as changing the bulb, but then speaking to someone the other night, they said that they were sealed units and the whole thing had to be replaced!

Just browsed the minispares site and for a Cooper SE headlight unit is £45 +/-, Surely got to to be a cheaper way?

The car is a 1991 Cooper SE.

Can anyone tell me what I need to get lights again?!?!

Thanks

The procedure is the same, undo the screw in the bottom of chrome trim ring, then prise the trim off from its bottom edge. underneath you'll find the screws that hold the retaining ring - don't confuse them for the beam adjuster screws that sit in slots, not holes. You can then lift out the light to replace it or the bulb.

Your looking at the complete unit that comes with the bowl which you probably don't need unless yours is damaged, sealed beam units can be bought at alot of motor factors made by companies such as Lucas for less than a tenner:

but if it were me I'd be tempted to upgrade to halogen H4 bulbs so you'd need 2x headlights like these:

I can recommend the upgrade you will really notice the difference and you will be able to easily obtain replacement bulbs in the future, fitting is very straight forward.
