More and often than not it is becomming a requirement for Car clubs to have public liability insurance to have a stand/display at shows, Mini in the Park being a prime example.

I have just been trawling the yellow pages and such like, ringing round places and eventually came across a company called Events Insurance who will actually provide the necessary cover, for a price. An annual policy is estimated at 200 pounds which covers upto 15 events per annum, or a per event cover of 80 pounds.

When you consider that this is for £2m public liability, not too expensive, but it is quite a burden to put on a Car Club with very limited resources.

I'm wondering how other car clubs manage this issue, and also TMF for that matter, or if anyone knows of somewhere else which is more affordable ???

Hi John to be honest its something I have never looked into. I never came across the problem at MITP but I would much prefer to have the insurance if needed. 200 pounds per year is nothing if I was to get sued as the no win no fee era is now in full swing.

bungle you are right... maybe you should lock off some of it.. let say uless there is a £1 fee... that way you would raise enough for insurance.

i am not at mine yet to find out the info but i think it was NFU and we paid under £100

Hi,

Safmini are the same as Dazzler, we are with NFU and I think it was between 50 & 60 quid. I'll see if I can find the contact name for you.

I think I am right but it the organisers of events that have to be covered so you only need expensive cover if you organise events, however each club stand has to be insured in case someone who is not a club member hurts themselves on your stand. So either keep people off the stand or get insured!
Not sure who Central are insured with but NFU rings a bell!

We have just got our renewal quote through from NFU and it has gone up from less than £100 last year to almost £250 this year for £ 2.5m of cover. :xxx:

Many shows require evidence of insurance if you want a Club stand so this is a must have unless we rule ourselves out of having a stand at such events.

Anyone else had the same experience and any suggestions as to who might be offering cover at a more reasonable rate. We had this problem 4 or 5 years ago when most insurers were imposing minimum premiums of around £200 - £250 and NFU happened to be offering a more reasonable scheme.

We are a small club and this amount is just disproportionate to our membership!

Thanks

I think you need to register as a trader to offer that service

Trader registration is intended to help protect members when trading via the forum. This is just a link to an external site and insurance broking is regulated by the FSA.

It's good that TMF'ers watch out for one another and help police the forum, but I don't think a trader registration would add anything here.
