by the way, I don't think John Lennon had a driving licence, did he? So I hope he wasn't driving a LHD Mini!
He had a licence but did not drive much...........and being a life long Beatle fan I remember that he crashed an Austin Maxi in Scotland!

John Lennon and Yoko Ono holiday in Scotland:
Sunday 29 June 1969
June 1969 was a month of rest for The Beatles, who were taking a break from the from the Abbey Road recording sessions.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono drove to Scotland for a brief holiday on 29 June.
The couple left their white Rolls-Royce at home, and instead took a customised Mini Cooper. They were accompanied by Lennon's six-year-old son Julian and Ono's five-year-old daughter Kyoko Cox. Julian happened to be visiting Lennon and was brought along without his mother Cynthia being informed.
On the first leg of the journey, to visit his aunts Nanny and Harrie in Liverpool, Lennon realised the Mini was too small to carry the four of them and their luggage,. He instructed his chauffeur Les Anthony to bring them a more practical British Leyland Austin Maxi. Anthony then took the Mini back to Weybridge.

1st July 1969
While holidaying in Scotland with Yoko Ono, her daughter Kyoko and his son Julian, John Lennon crashed his white British Leyland Austin Maxi car in Golspie near Loch Eriboll in the Highlands.
Lennon was a notoriously bad driver who had rarely been behind the wheel since passing his test in 1965. He was poor at navigating roads and often failed to notice other traffic.
The roads around Golspie were narrow, and Lennon lost control of the car, driving it into a roadside ditch. He, Ono and Kyoko sustained cuts to the face and Ono's back was injured.
They were taken to Golspie's Lawson Memorial Hospital where Lennon was given 17 facial stitches, Ono 14 in her forehead, and Kyoko four.
Julian Lennon was treated for shock but was otherwise unhurt. He was taken to stay with Lennon's Aunt Mater in Durness, around 50 miles away, before his mother Cynthia took him back to London the following day. When she arrived at the hospital to demand an explanation from Lennon he refused to see her.
Lennon remained in hospital for five days. He later told reporters, "If you're going to have a car crash, try to arrange for it to happen in the Highlands. The hospital there was just great."

There was one final detail for the Lennons to attend to - a lasting reminder of the Highland holiday that, while not burning, most definitely did crash.
They arranged for the crumpled Austin Maxi to be shipped to their mansion in Ascot.
The wacky pair arranged for it to be smelted down and mounted on a concrete pedestal in the garden.
