been on the phone to both footman and peter james and bith made me very unhappy with their service as i have to be a named driver on another car to get my insurance and they dont even think how mucht aht costs. Is their any other insurance companys who do classic policys for my age?

I have just had exactly the same problem as you ... im 18 and have been driving my mini for a year, apparently footman james's policy changed in july ... great, not.

Im looking around now and will let you know if i find anywhere ,, but its looking bleak

i didnt bother with classics policy, got mine fully comp at 17 with post office for £1400

look on www.tiger.co.uk ,, its a comparison for young drivers, got quite a good quote so far, but not classic ive rang up everywhere and nobody seems to want to give young drivers classic insurance anymore

When i first passed my test, Direct Line insured me on my 998, fully comp, for £1100. For a non-classic policy, i was quite impressed with that price.

That was four years ago now...time sure does fly. And premiums shoot up a lot.

Insurance companies are robbing b*****ds...

I'm 17, i have a 1994 mini mayfair 1.3spi with sportpack arches and wheels. Adrian flux quoted me 5K!!! including the 15% discount with theminiforum
Confused.com quoted £3250 best price
Go compare quoted £2800 best price

ye but there are reasons why the price is so high for youngsters. i know 2 friends who have crashed their cars through just being idiots. which is annoying because they spoil it for the rest of us.

Try Peter James insurance, Tel 0121 5066040. Don't do the online thing, speak to them in person.

My own policy £1100 3rd part fire and theft and double it for fully comp
Don't have to be named on another veichle

I am yet to learn to drive but i've been looking for quotes for my 1991 Rover Mini Mayfair and i had pretty much the same quote mine was... £1,403.67 with a proposer excess of £600 and that's fully comp with both my parents as names drivers on my car. <-- i think this brings it down dramatically!

Being insured on a motorcycle dropped my insurance with footman james by about £200.
And I didn't have to be a named driver on a car insurance policy - maybe that would be worth looking into?

Insurance companys certainly know how to get money my insurance through compare the market is £4000 go compare want £3500 and cheapest so far for me is Adrian flux at £2800 i will point out these quotes are ONLY 3rd party fire and theft fully comp is about £1000-£1500 more :s no wonder people drive with no insurance it would probably work out cheaper to just pay fines !!

my insurance costs £120 fully comp for a year thats with the twin carbs, exhaust manifold and RC40 declared and also an agreed valuation on the mini of just under £4000
