Hi All,

I ran out of petrol this morning (I thought this was odd as has plenty of fuel in car on Friday) I pushed the mini about a mile to the nearest Filling Station, I filled it up, car started no problems and off I went (at this point I was still on track to not be late for work, despite having to push the car to the garage)

I got to the next set of lights and a bloke flagged me down and pointed out the spillage. I got out having a quick look and fuel was coming all over the floor at the back of the car.

I was only a street away from home so decided to just carry on home

The rubber fuel pipe that comes from the tank and goes into the boot floor was leaking out for fun, I managed to get the fuel tank off and stop the river of fuel on my road….

So I need to replace the rubber hose that comes from the fuel tank and disappears into the boot floor.

Is this a DIY job and does anyone know what the hose is called, I’ve looked on a mini shops online under “fuel” and “hose” etc. etc., but can’t find anything.

Thanks People… J

If you take the pipe to a motor factors they will have some and cut it to length for you. Will only be penny's.

The hose will go through the body via rubber sleeve. I replaced mine with just a standard rubber hose when renewing the fuel pump on the subframe, also fitted a filter too. There are braided hoses available but a good quality rubber one will be fine. Just make sure you feed it back through the body with the rubber sleeve / grommet. The hole is smoothed over a bit, but still use a sleeve.

The hose goes through the boot floor and attaches to a rigid metal fuel pipe .
Very easy to replace, no need for braided its under no pressure. It's only a hoseclip (jubilee clip) either end holding it on.

Thanks to everyone above,

I did see the rubber grommet to stop it rubbing. It must have been leaking a fair while and slowly filling up the boot as its only started to leak out of the car via the 2 holes under the battery, I think the slight perish turned into a hole this morning as it was leaking out all over the place and fast...

Does the hose go through the boot floor to the underside of the car and just connect to a copper fuel line ?, if that's the case it sounds straight forward, Gutted I just put £35 in ... Good job I don't smoke !

Also is it worth me fitting a filter while I am doing this as mentioned about. Im currently running a 1275 and using lead replacement as the heads leaded. ?????

Disconnect it from underneath the car where it attaches to the metal piping. Have plenty petrol cans to catch the fuel. Then remove the tank and remove the pipe from the tank. When you have the new pipe. Connect to the tank, then underneath. Make sure it's tight. Put some petrol in and check for leaks. Then thats it. Wear goggles and gloves to protect you from the petrol and obviously out the way of sparks >_<.

Souns straight forward, Yeah tell me about it, petrol burns like hell. Its stripped the paint of under the spare wheel, so have no problem wrecking your skin...

Ill put car up on ramps tonight and have a bash at it. From what ive found from the web its 1/4 inch hose I need.

Do you know if this is correct?
