So last weekend I got the rear arch welded in and all cleaned off as well as cleaning off the battery box,Which  I'll paint that tomorrow.

DSCF0882_zpsjvjok9zr.jpg

Then I started wire brushing the drivers side inner wing and the cross member which needed a re-repair as we made a repair near the start of the resto which was terrible so spent a while cutting it (you can kind of see it on the bottom corner.

which turned into this. I've made so cardboard templates ready for this weekend.

DSCF0892_zpsnpgssch4.jpg

In some of the evenings I started cleaning off the rear subframe. Which I gave up on and sent it for sand blasting today which I'll get back tomorrow and paint it before the rust starts.

I've also been buying a few bit's, This grille muff, I caught the DSN bug so have bought a couple of their bit's, stainless p clips for the brake and fuel lines, and finally a sandblasting cabinet which will make cleaning parts a lot easier.

And I've owned it for 5 years today O_O

This weekend I reapaired the bulkhead bit.

DSCF0895_zpssljaz2v8.jpg

DSCF0894_zpspda4zcwm.jpg

fully welded in and the curved tapped around and welded along the edge.

DSCF0896_zpsjvzc3dij.jpg

And all ground down, much better than the other repair. just needs one spot weld doing on the lip that folds over.

DSCF0898_zpsnds98hv9.jpg

and painted the rear arch and battery box.

DSCF0900_zpsaca5uv6q.jpg

The front subframe didn't get sand blasted so that a job to do during the week if it turns up. I also started cleaning up the inner wing and bulkhead.

So I got my subframe back from sandblasting so first welded the top mounts and then gave it a coat of zinc spray . Then gave it a coat of the high build brush on zinc paint and now it’s got 2 coats of black on it which I’ll rub down and repaint, if it’s not a great finish I’ll rub it down again and spray it. Other than that I’ve been wire brushing the driver’s inner wing and bulkhead, and started making  a bracket to hold my oil can.

so much nicer welding the thicker metal.

brush on zinc paint and also sealed the seams with seam sealer.

Where are you putting the oil cans?

On the mini ;D

I've been trying out the sandblaster in the evenings, much easier than wirebrushing.

DSCF0936_zpsmpfipigw.jpg

The the weekend before last I finished cleaning the inner wing, and bulkhead and zinc sprayed them, I also had to do a few bits of welding.

DSCF0920_zps0oepygxs.jpg

DSCF0921_zpsyomfa7mh.jpg

Then I tested the seam sealer, seeing how well it went on and when it goes off. masked it up, squirted it on and smoothed it out.

DSCF0922_zpsqxjvuj1o.jpg

DSCF0923_zpsaginhpbq.jpg

DSCF0924_zps7kubysyx.jpg

Then friday I spent the day masking up the whole underside, used 1 1/2 rolls of masking tape :ohno:

DSCF0930_zps2pyonnjf.jpg

DSCF0928_zpsxki4w1uw.jpg

Then the "fun" began, I manged to borrow a air sealant gun rather than the hand pump type, I would recommend one if you're doing it, so much easier and quicker I think I would still be doing it next month else. With tips from "bigjay" of using a wet finger and pulling the masking tape off straight after. I started at the front and worked my way back.

DSCF0932_zpsp3121ymx.jpg

DSCF0934_zpshu4fgkyb.jpg

DSCF0935_zpsol5xxlgt.jpg

I then had to do this to be able to the valance behind the wheel well,

DSCF0931_zpsdz2l3dmp.jpg

And thats about it, Next weekend I'll hoefully be able to stone chip the majority of the underside.

cheers bud, doesn't look bad close up either ;D :genius:. Need to crack of assembling the front and rear subframes to get it rolling when it's flipped over.

What was the masking tape for?

For making neat lines and corners, just make it look nicer, not that it'll matter when it's undersealed.

The week before last I managed to get into the garage in the evenings to sandblast and paint a couple of parts.

DSCF0937_zpsb7zqwpnf.jpg

then last weekend I started masking up for underseal but didn't manage to finish in time to spray it. I finished masking it up on friday.

DSCF0949_zpsocthxrhg.jpg

DSCF0950_zpsjsgxfsvb.jpg

I then started stripping and cleaning off the hubs. I filed the round part as I've heard the 8.4 to 7.5 conversion can rub on it, then tested them out which there was no rubbing

DSCF0953_zpsp2urrrp5.jpg

DSCF0954_zpslwr98hsy.jpg

DSCF0955_zpsi7sn7tot.jpg

Which went well until I spotted one of the threads had been stripped :(. Not sure to get another one or just helicoil it?

DSCF0956_zpswvqubxns.jpg

Then the time came to start spraying the underseal which was easier than I thought.

DSCF0958_zpscebdrvyu.jpg

DSCF0960_zpsfju5a52m.jpg

DSCF0961_zpsg30qxsjd.jpg

But as usual didn't go without a hiccup, I got a bit of a reaction in places.

A-panel to wing join

DSCF0963_zpswtptmzwa.jpg

A bit here

DSCF0969_zpssdvegpjk.jpg

And the worst, the rear valance which had red oxide on  >_<

DSCF0962_zpsjzriwjmm.jpg

DSCF0964_zpskj7qxucd.jpg

Which now looks like this

DSCF0975_zpskihj0vgn.jpg

So next weekend I'll have to re seam sealer it and the re underseal :(, Was hoping to be able to spray colour next week or the week after.

It's is a great build. Love the detailed posts and pics.

The above post you talk about a reaction with the underseal. Why would it react? How do you prevent it?

Its a reaction between 2 or multiple types of paint/coating not being compatible. The red oxide use now-a-days is common for doing it and hammerite will do it if you coat over it with anything other than hammerite itself. If in doubt. Do a test piece first and make sure one product is dry before applying another and follow manufacturers guidelines.

Cheers mate. As above, just the paint doesn't like eachother , I've not had a reaction with hammerite but it has been on the car for a while which I think I've read helps. A test piece does help but it doesn't always react straight away, I'm going to spray some underseal onto a bit of metal and spray over it with cellulose to make sure it doesn't react.

I've been into the garage this evening and yesterday evening, zinc sprayed the rear valance and tonight seam sealed it again, not easy without the air gun. >_<

A few things have happened in the last month, Re-undersealed the rear valance which it reacted with the seam sealer again, so have re-seam sealed it again ready for primer and colour. I've sorted out all the bits that I've got so I know where to find it and what I need to get. I removed all of the paint off the rear subframe that I did a couple of years ago O_O as there was rust coming through. so wire brushed it and painted with the brush on zinc paint and am giving it a few coats of the black.

DSCF0988_zpsomyjshfe.jpg

I've been cleaning up more of the suspension bits.

DSCF1016_zpsgdrggmuv.jpg

DSCF1017_zps4jpweyjz.jpg

Removed the paint off the radius arms and got the grinder on them to make them a bit smoother, removing the casting marks and numbers.

DSCF0986_zpsxkjy5klw.jpg

Here's the pin that was in one of the arms ... A tad worn

DSCF0985_zpstw88z2rd.jpg

Found a good way of sealing the radius arms for sandblasting with a couple of rubber bungs.

DSCF1015_zpste8i00ww.jpg

DSCF1013_zpsczxm4hwd.jpg

And last weekend we went to riviera run and picked up a couple of bits including another set of wheels. Can anyone guess what they are?

DSCF1004_zpsqjixrxye.jpg

Thats about it, next weekend we'l hopefully be making the full and brake lines so that I can drill the holes in the floor for P clips.

Alex
