Nice to see the work is still going on well! Great work!

Cheer's.
I have done a bit more today. I cleaned most of the battery box and welded and patch and ground it.

I'm going to make new side's for it and plug weld them like originals, Then I'm going to weld the seam's as this seam's ( ) to be where the water get's in and rust's.

Nice work Alex,

making your own panels is so satisfying and yours look very good. I too have welded up the holes on the underside of the mini, water can come in everywhere but why let it in from underneath !!! They were jig alignment holes anyway!!

Keep it up

Thanks, Not only satisfying but alot cheaper, You can make them Better to. Yeah I don't want any where for water to get in so welding along the seams, as the water runs down the box and in. I wondered what they were for.

Today We have been doing the battery box. First we cut out the bad metal from where the battery cable go's and welded in new and also a thin strip where it was thin. I may run the battery cable through the inside so there is no hole.

I bent the side panels in the week So they were ready to be welded in.

We had to adjust the box and the floor to get the box to sit right.
Then I set about welding it, I welded one on the outside as there was a slight gap between the boot floor and box so it made the gap smaller.

Cheer's, It shouldn't take much to put in place, just grinding and a bit of welding, I think I may add metal to the corner's of the box to make it a rectangle and to make it look better.

Does anyone Know os there is any need for the L shape bit's that go on the corner's of the boot floor?

Great work! All these threads inspiring me to learn to weld. Good tip with welding the battery box holes, Should you weld up the drain holes on the sills? While you're at it weld up the wing hole for the aerial and convert to a roof mounted aerial, much cleaner looking :)

Thanks, It is definitely something worth knowing (especially when owning a mini), I found it alright to do when I was 14 but now it is a lot easyer as I've practiced. You shouldn't weld the sill drain hole's as I think they then can trap moisture? But they must be alright open as they would have been made closed else.I've already welded the aerial hole, I don't know where I'm going to mount it I don't fancy it being on the roof, I may get one that clamps to the Gutter.

Alex,

all I can think of is they are strengtheners for the box hole. I can't say I even noticed them on mine :shy: . Try a post in the bodywork section for more specific answers.

I did think they were, But would have thought that the battery box would give it enough strength. I can alway's add them on.
