So no sugestions here then. Just the sheer arrogance of "I know and you dont"..I thought this was a forum to try and help people..Nice Mr Dilligaf....very nice.I'd suggest you both go away and study how the SU works................

Yeah it's true bud think of it this way could you run with your foot in a bucket of treacle ha ha ha
The tech guy at burlen fuel systems told me to use 3in1 or damper oil he was shocked when i told him a leading mini shop had told me to use engine ,not knocking the guy's who use engine oil or recomend it but carb's should run better with correct grade
You'd expect them to know what there talking about as well..............which if the above is true they obviously don't !

Well if you all want help i have given it but nobody seems to take notice he is right read up on carbs they are not plug and play if you dont know how it works what chance have we got do we all know what 20/50 stands for in oil it is the viscosity 20 cold and 50 warm this is calculated through a redwood second counter 50 ml of oil running through a hole it is the time taken so if the oil in the dashpot is to thin when you are motering and you put your foot down your mixture will become lean as the piston rises to quickley and lets in to much air if it is to thick the opposite happens it will be to rich damper oil is a constant 20 grade do i need to say anymoreSo no sugestions here then. Just the sheer arrogance of "I know and you dont"..I thought this was a forum to try and help people..Nice Mr Dilligaf....very nice.

Yeah but yeah but yeah but if one know how things work and the implications of getting the wrong information the world will be a better place, his mini will run better and he will be able to pass on his new found knowledgeI can understand your frustration...This question does get asked a lot. But I find it easyer to give a simple answer to a simple question than to suggest that the OP needs to know all the workings of the su carb, Is that really nesessary?...He only asked what dashpot oil to use...not how to strip and clean a carb...

So am i bud old and full of useless information well not all, there are still a lot of things i need to learn, but and old saying, if you learn one new thing a day you will be a wise as me ha ha ha only jokingVery true..Im still learning even at my old age....

It's absolutely ridiculous writing off using engine oil, it has suited many applications perfectly

So it may change viscosity a little, but not too much.
And in a way as the engine gets warm it may prove advantageous (in a fuel economy sense) to have a leaner accelerating mixture.

Ok daddy!!.. LOL.... but im fully aware of how a carb works thanks .And have been for the past 30 odd years.....My point was that the OP was not asking for a lesson in building a carb but simply which oil to use.....
So no sugestions here then. Just the sheer arrogance of "I know and you dont"..I thought this was a forum to try and help people..Nice Mr Dilligaf....very nice.
LMAO look sonny, I have explained this numerous times but everytime you get the same response it's getting a bit monotonous. I'll explain then Roy (bmceccose) or whoever, will come along and tell you how it works far better than the oil. Because the piston will rise faster and then a loads of others will agree.
Now if you understood how the SU works you know that you want the piston to rise as slowly as possible, because this is how the enrichment side of the su works. Without enrichment you wont get the correct mixture for acceleration, yes if you set the carb up so it's horrendously rich all the time this wont matter as much. But you wont pass emission tests if you need to, or get decent mpg which is getting more important all the time with fuel prices the way they are. Plus the engine won't last as long as it should, as the rich mixture WILL cause bore wash, which increases piston ring/bore wear.
Im not sure why you feel the need to be so aggressive in your posts.

Actually that is just as wrong! you want the piston to move in relation to the throttle spindle, so the piston should only be at the top of its travel when the throttle is fully open, maybe ever so slightly before, there is no point in there being lag due to too much dampening and the piston either reaching the top of its travel way after W.O.T or jut never reaching maximum height at W.O.T.
