I've come to the decision that the original sealed beam headlights on my Mini City E 1989/1990 are just not bright enough.

Now I've seen the range of headlights that are on offer, it's just I've heard that some are illegal, such as the angel eyes, I know I've had a word with Ade and he mentioned that the legal ones are 'e' marked. Has anyone got anymore information on this?

I'm not JUST looking at Angel eyes, I just generally want some brighter lights, I'm not too fussed about whether I get the angel eyes or not, I like the look of the crystal lights though.

Thank you!

I've found the best ones to get for clarity are the Wipac H4 replacements, but they do suffer a bit from corrosion on the back so would suggest spraying the back with High temperatur paint which should but the rot at bay for a while longer...

The cheaper patterened lenses are ok, but you need to make sure you used good quality bulbs to get the correct pattern, I had one fail an MOT and I had only put the lense and bulb in 2 hours before hand, turned out to be a dodgy bulb where the pattern was not being projected.

Angel eyes are a matter for debate.. if the bulb is good enough to provide the pattern then you may get away with it, but dont count on it..

The 'E' mark is the European ( like a british kite mark ) standard for the lights and is signified by an E in a circle and is impressed on the Glass

Right, I've been looking around at the different headlights, and I would REALLY like some of the crystal halogen lights. The only problem is that obviously most of them aren't legal, any ideas on which crystal/angel eye lights are legal and how much they would set me back?

I've got these halogens from minispares... not sure what you mean by "crystal" though. They are very bright compared with the old standard ones. I'm really happy with them. And they're "E" marked, so totally legal.

By crystal I mean something similar to this:
Crystal Headlights

Like the angel eye headlights, but obviously without the halo.

I saw some angel eye headlamps which have a sort of ultrabright white/blue halo which I thought looked quite funky, just I don't want to get them if it's going to fail me on an MOT or I'm going to get trouble with them.

Otherwise I'll probably have to go for some regular halogen ones.

Where did you get these from chris? I ordered some ages ago from Minispares but they never sent them.

Yeah it looks like minispares have stopped doing them, they're not on their website anymore.

As for replacing them at MOT time, wouldn't it be a bit dodgy as you have to realign them every time right?

Because they're sealed-units, I wouldn't have thought you'd have to realign them. Your not touching the bulb, just the unit, so it shouldn't move.
