.
So just wondering why others are against it when technically if rover had stayed in business it would have been the new British Mini.

i drive a T2 campervan but doesn't mean i like the T5's just because the 5 is a replacement for the 2 doesn't mean the same people will love it

The main thing is the shape, it hasn't changed since it first came out and of course you get variants over time but people can relate to a 1959 or 2001 model, its the shape that people know that makes the car what it is and blah blah blah blah blah

They do yeah, but unfortunately it just goes to show the general view about them from people who like the original and classic and proper and much much better mini :-

Also, giner88 I don't know what your moaning about, I think it was YOU who first mentioned BINI and questioning why they are carrying bonnet stripes aswell, as soon as you mention the B word on here its like a red flag to a bull mate so go and sit in the corner

Origins of bonnet stripes?

BMC were on the ball - they knew stripes added at least 20bhp

The straps were the result of the Mini being a very suitable car as a Rally Car. They were not added to the car to look good or as a pose for the Driver. They were there as a practical addition. Imagine your out on a Rally and the car starts playing up, usually dampness, all the electrics being at the front and vulnerable. So you had to have a quick solution to get yourself mobile. The bonnet was not bolted to the bonnet arms, you had instead two metal fingers for want of a better word, that slid under the Scuttle Panel. The bonnet Stay was discarded as useless as was the bonnet catch. Then the bonnet was closed and it was now not possible to move it, unless you pulled it forward. Two Straps were then fitted to the Bonnet and to the Slam Pannel, the strap was pulled tight and the bonnet was really immovable. So when you jumped out to get a good look at the problem under the Bonnet, the whole thing came off and you were then able to get right into the Engine more easily.
