Cd is a bit artificial, it's just an index devised to compare drag between objects, calculated from their actual drag in proportion to their area. You also have to make some assumptions (relative air speed & density), so it doesn't mean as much unless you put all those factors back in. Do that and you'll end with a figure that relates pretty closely to mpg - Minis aren't half bad at that.

We should introduce Cmini - a car's drag coefficient relative to it's passenger compartment volume and overall length. :D

0.5 x 1.225 (assuming sea level) x frontal area x Cd (listed earlier) x V^2 (v being velocity in m/s)........= same aerodynamics as a box.

5 year olds kmow that flat edges are less aerodynamic.


not sure i know any 5 year olds who know ANYTHING about aerodynamics but thanks for your input.
