hi all,
just a quick question about the gauges in my mini..... basically all of them are smiths apart from the rev counter which says Tim on it.... are these the original gauges or do smiths do a rev counter also?

TIM gauges have never been standard, and if you have very many gauges the rest probably aren't either. Hard to know for sure though if you don't say what car it is and what gauges they are, or put up a picture.

Tim rev counter is aftermarket, smiths do a rev counter, never fitted as a standard, but did a 3 pod binnacle including a rev counter (ie clubman gt had them). There was another brand rev counter fitted as standard to authi and innocenti mini coopers (jeager?).

Jaeger is a bit misleading to throw into the mix. There is "British Jaeger" which is really just a re-badged Smiths. They were used on a lot of British cars up until the mid-1960s. Then there is a continental Jaeger used on many French cars (in particular). The French Jaeger gauges have nothing at all in common with British Jaeger. I have not seen Inno gauges up close but I would have expected them to Veglia-Borletti. While I have a friend in Chicago who has an Authi, I've never seen his car to know what gauges the Spaniards used.

Sounds to me like a central speedo setup if its the big speedo with a fuel gauge built in. In which case the entire thing isnt original let alone the rev counter.

Yes Doug you're right about the veglias, but there were either veglia and jeager instuments:

Cool Jaydee. Thanks for the link.
The Inno sure had a nice looking interior.

As above, none of your gauges are original. An '89 Mayfair should have the offset 3 clock pod, one speedo, one fuel/water/warning lamps and one tacho. All about 110mm, in a binnacle and not badged Smiths. It should have Nippon Seiki instruments.
