Hi all,

The Haynes manual/Rover Mini manual states that I should use Unipart super plus antifreeze and summer coolant. Is this stuff still available?

Also, states that if not a an ethylene glycol based one is recommendeded. The haynes manual suggests ehylene-glycol based with non phosphate corrosion inhibitors with no methanol and says Duckhams Antifreeze ans summer coolant.

I hope you can help. All I'm after doing is topping it up a tad.

Charlie

If you are just topping up you need to use the same stuff used before to avoid problems. If you don't know it will be best to drain and flush and refill with new product.

Yeah, I know. But does Superplus still exist?

Well that answers my question...it would seem the green stuff (Super plus) isn't stocked anymore. So leaves blue and orange.

I was gonna say Unipart are still going too,

Use ethylene glycol, the brand doesn't really matter. That's usually blue or green, you shouldn't mix it with the red stuff, which you shouldn't use in an iron engine anyway. If you don't know what's in there change it, it only lasts a couple of years anyway.

I would imagine its the Super plus stuff or similar, given that's green. Could you recommend me one, as Halfords doesn't state what one's are let alone any other Motorist store.

Bluecol is the famous brand. The red stuff lasts longer, which is why they use it in modern cars for drivers who can't work a bonnet catch , so the change interval is a clue - 2 years for Ethylene Glycol, 4 years for OAT (the red stuff you don't want. It should state what's in it somewhere though.

Any other stuff? And can the Bluecol just be add on top? Or would a full flush of the system make more sense?

I'm sure there'll be lots of brands - Carplan etc. As I said flush & change it if you don't know how old it is, it's often overlooked if the car doesn't have a proper service record & 2 years isn't long.
