Where the hell are you going to sit in that?!I am fitting a cage to mine, but its going to be the full FIA spec saftey devices one from minisport:
Probably OTT, but it aint gonna go anywhere!
I'm sorry, but I laughed at that. Good sense of humour.Getting back to the pits and hearing my older brother ask if I was hungry then offering me a roll, didn't see as funny back then as it does now...

so on reflection i'd say if in doubt fit a cage - i just wish the insurance companies wouldnt charge you so much more for protecting yourself and your car

The main reason they do this is because they automatically assume (in most cases wrongly) that you are going to drive it like you stole it because the cage will "protect you".

Instead of splashing out £400+ on a rollcage, which could do me more harm than good, im going to pad out my A and B Pillars so they're spongy, fit supportive front seats to support pelvis and shoulders (Not buckets as i dont want a back ache), and remove any hard and sharpish objects inside the car, padding where neccessary. Its also worth fitting side impact bars inside the front doors for that added safety in the event of a side impact.
Oh and im impressed with how the mini took the impact with the LDV van. At 25mph i thought it wouldv'e been much worse.

Its a good example of just how tough the mini can be.

Ive gotta say im with "Avv IT" on this. I was all for fitting a roll cage in my mini just for the added protection, but this thread has changed my mind. Road situations are very different from rally and race. The chances of rolling a mini on a public road are low, unless your driving like an absolute w*****.therefore Roll cage just becomes a cage in what is already a limited space. Minis have been on our roads since 1959 and 1000s have been involved in accidents, some fatal, some less so, but people still bought them. Its only in recent years weve been made aware of NCAP crash tests etc making us more aware of vehicle safety and causing us mini owners to panic.

Thanks for your opinion. However I disagree with you that you have to be driving like a wan*er to roll a Mini. Let me give you some situations where this could occur -
Some one pulls out in front off you and you violently turn to avoid crashing and then you wheels hit a curb or crass verge and flip you
You are driving around a corner where black ice is present , Your rear wheels loose grip for some time and when they catch grip again this can flip you
I also don't think putting padding inside your car will make much difference in a crash ( Both on a pillar or a roll cage )
Thanks again

Fit a cage. If you want one, have one.
Please read this though http://www.theminifo...=rollcage&st=15 (think that works)
I'll just repeat the most important piece of info though:-
If I hadn't of had a rollcage at the time of the accident, I would have been dead and buried!
Think that sums it up.
Just so sick of hearing that 'rollcages will kill you'
In fact, on the brighter side, I might get a sticker 'My rollcage didn't kill me' or 'Danger Danger rollcage fitted' or 'kill the rollcage before it kills you'

I can't believe this is STILL being debated!

Finally some one that is actually on my side. It seems like everyone thinks roll cages are death traps.
What happened in your crash ?

now i know these photos aren't of a mini, however if you look at the damage cased to this shell (cat b write off) i think putting a roll cage in a mini to strengthen it up would help a great deal
Sorry I'm confused as to what point are you making here. All the damage to this car appears to be relatively superficial, so are you saying that this car had a roll cage in it then?

My youth, touch of reckless driving, someones dodgy parking on a corner, too much speed and the front of my Mini hitting the back of a parked car.
Flipped it, rolled it over parked cars and ended up in a field.
The car was completely trashed, I got out stunned, cuts and bruises, but alive!
The cage had done its job, but also having the bucket seats and harnesses went a great way to helping.
