Thanks deebo, it certainly is becoming a solid shell now. Brams96, thanks, I can actually get to most of the repairs on the back of the pillars to tidy up, but will apply some seam sealer and some paint here anyway. Thanks Vindam, I have been close to giving up on the gutters but can almost see the finish line now so not much more to do!
So, Sunday I got all of the welds on the passengers side gutter finished and then started the big grind down! About 5 hours work here and this is the end result.
Inside of the gutter ground down, with a 6mm grinding disc on my home made spindle in the drill, at a very very slow speed. Then finished off the inside of the curve on the lip with a 2mm cutting disc on the spindle and drill.
And the under side with a 40 grit then a 100 grit flap disc.
Thats the passengers side done. Got a bit at the front and a really hard curved bit to sort out at the back next and then roof!
Thanks.

Nah, can't be. I reckon the first one was a stunt doubleI'm sorry but how the hell can that be the same mini?
Over at Classic Jaguar (in the US) they're restoring a Cooper for a client and they've just done similar repairs to the gutter rail... http://www.classicjaguar.com/gk.html

Hmmm... if you replace 90% of the panels (which they must have done) then it isn't the same car in my humble opinion. I know this has been to court a few times where people have bought 'original' cars only to find they've been restored to a point where they are no longer considered to be the same car.No, it really was the same mini
I wonder if they painted the bonnet black so that the fit would look better. Maybe I should try this with mine hahaha

Thats the thing I don't understand either, during the episode when the tank goes over it you can see that the upholstery is the usual orangey beige and brown colour then it changes. The car is the same however, obviously they didn't use much of the car, but when filming they crushed more than one car and they probably used bits off all the ones they used.On the subject of the bean car, cant be the same surely? nothing on it would be reuseable, you can even see in the crushed photo that the seats were different on said car.

Two pieces of 6mm round bar curved to shape and tack welded together.
Piece of metal cut to shape and clamped to the round bar and folded round.
Had to keep dressing the metal and clamping it to get it to the correct shape. With it curving in two different directions it kept creasing. I nearly gave up but it eventually got persuaded into my way of thinking!
This was the reason for going to all this trouble, more rot!
Can't tell from the outside.
Cut out.
Tacked in.
Next piece.
Not too bad. Quite pleased.
A few bits to finish grinding tomorrow.
Thanks
