Hi Scott, great work and a great help in working out what fits to what when all I'm left with is various piles of rust. Thanks for the information on the kit us use to strip the paintwork down. Where do you get your sand and clean disks from?

Thanks for your comments TDOD. CBJ805T, those Strip and Clean discs were from Bingley show but I have got them from Halfords in the past (when and if they ever have them in stock) or local hardware stores. Try searching google or eBay for "strip disc". Prices I have paid tend to be around 7 or 8 pounds, can be cheaper at shows but you may find a better deal on buying 3 or 4. Remember, very light pressure makes them last a lot longer.

Thanks Deebo. Got a bit done over the weekend. Still working on the right hand side gutter. Had about 5 inches that was good on the inside and so thought I might as well just do the lot! Made sections up as previously described, but with another slightly longer former, with a curve to match that of the gutter. Cut pieces of old gutter out to the length of each repair piece, so as to keep it all aligning correctly and tacked each piece in.

Copper used to help when welding the joins in the gutter.
Posted Image

Pieces tacked in all the way to the rear.

And then welded from above. This shows the penetration on the under side.

Top side.

Then the time consuming bit, grinding and blending the welds, on the underside first. Not good for the neck working upside down with a grinder! Had to keep building up weld on the joins and grind and file back, as I really don't want to use any filler on the gutter.
Posted Image

Still got the underside of the gutter to do above the drivers door.
Posted Image

But the edge of the gutter doesn't look too bad at all. I'm quite pleased with how its turned out.

Still got the inside of the gutter to grind down to, but ran out of time and thought i'd better give the neighbours a break from the noise!

Thanks.

Hi Scott,

Great work as usual! I just wanted to ask a quick questions. I noticed you've been stripping all the panels back to bare metal when you are working on them. Are you then using an etch primmer to seal these prior to painting?

If so I just wondered what type? rattle can etc.? I've heard lots of people say various things so I'm not sure what to treat the panels with the stave off rust before the restoration is complete. I've also heard people saying that their etch primer sometimes reacts badly with the final top coat - have you any experience of this?
