Wondered what the record was?

The Most Expensive MINI - The MINI Limo

Posted ImageSold for $80,000 the Mini Limo, which was created as a one off by John Cooper Garages for the 1997 Frankfurt motor Show, was the most expensive Mini ever built. ''Princess Regina Abdurazakova from Kazakhstan is the owner of this stretched out Mini Cooper that she affectionately calls The Shagadelic. The purplish-pink limousine boasts a 47-inch TV, 70 monitors, 30 parking sensors, 20 parking cameras, and around 1,000,000 Swarovski crystals (including 8 cm. diameter ones in the center of each wheel). All this leads the maker, Juhan Losop from Metal Hammer, to call it the most expensive “Classic Mini Limo”. How much is it worth? It is insured for about $2.75 million! ''

Found this one...how many parking sensors??

The ex-works rally cars really do make high numbers. The only issue is how genuine they are. During the 60's the 'works' used to swap number plates rom car to car on different events. There was even one rally where Timo Makinen's Cooper 'S' had a Morris badge on the front and an Austin one on the back.
Still, if you had one with an ex-works number on it, would you refuse £100k for it?

"John Cooper Garages for the 1997 Frankfurt motor Show"

As the MINI wasn't launched until 2001 I find this a little hard to believe, it could have been a pre production car, but 4 years before they were released???

Does seem unlikely........although this news clip video shows a pre-production new MINI in existence in 1997........it was sent to the Frankfurt Motor Show Media preview by Rover in September 1997 as a "skin prototype" based on the modified platform, engine and running gear of a Fiat Punto. It successfully diverted publicity from the arrival of the new Mercedes A-Class and Smart cars. (includes an interview with the late John Cooper)

That car pictured above is not the JCG Mini Limo from the '97 motor shows. Follow this: http://www.theminifo...howtopic=122996 for a page about the car, the pictures are terrible but other than the Mini Mag column about it pictures of this car are very hard to find. It is privately owned and built to spec for a customer, Rover dragged it around all the motorshows that year and then handed it over. It and the Hot Rod were both built at the same time for different customers and you saw one or the other depending on what day you went to the show, the Hot Rod was out the day I went. The Limo was indeed a classic Mini, wasn't stretched, but was just fully luxuried up. It was a deep red pearlescent colour with chromed Sportspack wheels and light tan leather, fully electric heated and cooled Recaro seats. It had sat nav which was a very expensive option in 1997 and required a small-ish computer with CD Rom drive to be installed into the boot. It had a Minidisc multichanger under the rear seat (remember them?). Cooper Garages built another one to a slightly lesser spec in blue for themselves and had it in their tent for Mini @ 40.

The Hot rod was not factory built either incidentally, it was put together by Jack Knight.
