Brought some of the hammerite Kurust today just wondering if anyone rates it and does it make metal hard again , as i have to do the lip on under the back bumper . Will the best way be to sand rust back then kurust then prime and top coat and are palm sanders ok to use to rub back rust .

i would usually grind back as much rust as possible so you have better metal and the put kurust on it and wait til it dries and then etch primer, i dont really know if it works to be honest but i hope it does
and i think palm sanders would just take forever, as said i just use a grinder and be careful or a wire wheel that either fits to a drill or a knotted wire wheel that fits to a grinder
hope this helps

im not excatly sure what kurust is but it just sounds like undersealer to me.
If it is then it dosn't make metal hard (nothing will make your metal hard again, once it's rusted, its rusted) it simply covers metal with an oily coating preventing moisture etc getting to the metal and rotting it.
I would clean up the surface with a wire brush and some emery cloth then just paint your kurust on.

Should be ok, it contains phosphoric acid, like many other rust converters. If I can still remember my O level chemistry...
A base (rust) + acid makes water + a salt, that'll be iron posphate. It's not far off the treatment that makes handguns black, as well as being what they makes slug pellets from. So, even if you can never stop a Mini rusting, at least it'll never be eaten by a giant, killer Mollusc

Yes it converts but it only penetrates so far into the top layers of rust so you can have untreated rust below that starts off the rusting again, ideally you need to remove as much of the rust as possible , many grind it away, I do not like this method, whilst it is very effective it reduces the thickness of the metal in the surrounding area but each to their own, and if at all possible I try and dissolve the corrosion away first with phosphoric acid amongst other things, there are MANY rust dissolvers for me they all work but as I am impatient and want results quickly I use something like this, and a bit more waffle here. It is important to remove all traces of acid with water but that allows the rusting process to start so after the water, now apply the Kurust, then bondaprimer then paint and all should be well. If anybody has their methods of rust removal/ treatments I would be grateful if you could post.
