I know all you guys are begging for updates... And although there aren't many pictures from the last few months progress, as I've just been doing 10/15 minutes an evening...

But as she stands.

Then, a few weeks ago - I spotted a bargain. A friend had written off her ek9 type R, and needed to shift the undeclared mods... Hello genuine AEM intake!

Posted Image

Was heartbreaking to cut such a perfect CAI just for a project, but hey, needs must and all that - only cost me £20 with filter. Definitely needed cut though!

Posted Image

Looks a bit better! Decided with the inheritance, I'm going to go for an internal pedal box to allow for standard distributor, and decent intake tract.

I've just started a job as a fabricator and TIG welder dealing in stainless steel - so going to make up some inner arches when I get a free lunch break :)

Posted Image

10mm stainless angle rolled and stretched to curve, welded to 2.5mm stainless sheet. Managed to keep this weld going over 2 metres around a mash drum for a brewery!

That's some insane welding! Think I need to start an apprenticeship as a fabricator if I want to try and do so well!

Well then - small update just to reassure those of you thinking 'oh, he's bought himself a performance car, the mini will be forgotten'

So - I was testing my wiring and now my starter motor has sheared - got a new one ready to go on tonight now the garage is warm again! :)

Also managed to do the inevitable! I've tracked down a distributor, at long last! We should be able to go for another start up over the next few weeks! Pics later!

So - it's been a good week! No pictures just yet as I've managed to break my phone - BUT! New starter motor is on and turning!

Redone a load of wiring, and the fuel pump and everything is priming correctly - I'm even getting 12v to the injectors, and to the dizzy cables!

Now, because the engine was going to be sat over winter I put an extra two litres of oil in it. I went to let some of this out and possibly did it the worst way possible. Took the sump plug out and out came the threads with it! Obviously, only had a two litre container and had just tidied the garage earlier - so there was no empty containers to be found. Brilliant! Floor, meet oil... Oil, meet floor. 5 litres of it. Everywhere!

Not dared to go back in there since, but new sump and plug should be here this week, and then get the dizzy bolted up. Get some oil in her and she should run! Then just need to time her up! Happy chappy!

Bit of concrete dust on top, nobody would ever know ;) Cheers, got a bargain on it too!

I've just gone through the thread and I can see the images - I'll try it from another browser later!
Not ignorant at all, even I dont know! I just bought the engine and box/ancillaries! Looking about 160 maybe, but with a bit of work I can see 180. Still considering the supercharged route, which could have us 220 on the current block. 300+ on a b18 so we'll see!

Well - it looks like I'm going to have a LOT more time and money to spend on the mini. Been done for dangerous driving! Will probably go quiet for the next few weeks but I WILL have updates for you all!
