Pub sounds good to me! Theres a place for you to crash if need be, save driving on a drink pal!

Blimey Jamie! after your crash I thought the pun was a bit much!

Hope your up and well, build can wait (parental bit there!)

As mentioned, going coil on plug! Will post up a few details about what that entails!

Aha, just noticed that myself!
Cheers pal, still without transport as not going to claim, insuring this mini is going to be hard enough without a crash on record!

So, I've never really been happy with the quality of the finish in my engine bay, so I've decided, while I'm getting the parts together to go coil on plug, I'd strip it back down again and get it exactly how I want it!

Posted Image

Removed the engine wiring loom to do some work to it...

Posted Image

Posted Image

I set about stripping back the loom, removing all conduit, checking for broken wires, extending everything on the loom so I can hide all my wires out of sight... For anyone using a honda engine loom, there is a big plug over the drivers side of the engine loom, near the one that comes back across to join the car loom - if you look closely, there are actually no pins in it, the wires just go into it as a cap, this can be removed or if you strip the conduit part, moved to the middle of the loom, where it can sit ontop of the rear mount.

Posted Image

All connectors, crimps and chock blocks will be soldered joints, they're just holding the wires in the right place currently!

Going to wrap the loom in red conduit afterwards, to keep with my colour scheme... While its apart, I'm going to respray the bay green, but remove the tower bolts, wiper motor and anything else like that, and spray them red. Should look quite nice! Then, I think I'm going to apply some sound deadening to the bulkhead box - not only to cover the welds, but to stop any annoying rattles!

Placed the 'tucked' loom in place, and what a difference it makes - so much neater, and thats before it's even wrapped! Also p-clipped the starter cable into place along the floor of the car.

I hate wiring! Organised all my stuff a bit better though!

Posted Image

Started to polish up my wheels - (they're in a very sorry state, but a bit of elbow grease will have them ready to be sprayed gunmetal grey with a polished lip)

After

Got my rear quarter lights back in, and my rear window is ready to go in, just need seals.

Posted Image

While I was working, I noticed I seemed to be getting red paint off my rocker cover on my clothes, it doesn't seem very durable, so went over it with some vht clear coat! Then a nice polish and wax left it nice and shiny!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Got the grill on, plonked the bonnet on, and took a couple of money shots... it's nice seeing photos like this, and realising how little you have left to do!

My favourite...

Since a few people have asked me about this coil on plug kit - I'll just post a few details of the setup...

"AEM’s B-Series Coil-On-Plug (COP) Conversion Kit eliminates both the known performance issues common to the B-series engine’s factory igniter and the need to replace your aging cap/rotor/wire assembly. It delivers outstanding coil-on-plug performance for stock to moderately modified engines at an affordable price because you do not need to add a capacitive discharge ignition module to make this conversion.

WHY YOU WANT ONE
AEM’s COP B-series Conversion Kit is the perfect ignition upgrade for naturally-aspirated or boosted B-Series engines that do not exceed 15 PSI of boost. It is highly affordable as it does not require the integration of a CDI module. For the weekend racer or performance enthusiast, it eliminates the dwell issues common to the factory distributor as RPM increases by providing an individual coil for each cylinder.

If your B-Series engine is stock or mildly modified, why replace factory components when you can upgrade to an affordable, premium NO MAINTENANCE coil-on-plug ignition system? It is commonly known that the factory igniter on the B-Series engine is prone to failure. Further, as distributors age timing signal quality can decrease and lead to poor engine performance.

AEM’s B-Series COP Conversion Kit eliminates energy losses associated with a deteriorated cap/rotor/wire assembly and includes an igniter that has been tested under the most rigorous conditions we could conceive—run at over 10,000 RPM for over 24 hours with a dwell time that was advanced almost 50% of the way past current saturation (3.2mS versus 2.2mS)—and it did not fail. "

It's probably the more expensive way of doing it, but the budgets gone out the window on this build as I get more and more enthusiastic! But, it means I get the simpler option, with something I dont really understand...

You basically replace the distributor with this thing, so your ECU* gets a reliable timing signal off the old dizzy drive...

And the coil/plug lead kit....

I put an asterix by ecu, as I'm either going to go for hondata, or ditch the honda setup completely and go for the AEM infinity stand alone management system, as this has support for dual fuelling setups, to make the most of the proposed nitrous injection system that we're looking to use. Coming in the next software update though, is three stage nitrous injection control, so it seems ideal. We'll see how money goes over the next few weeks, and how much insurance decide to pay out for the van!

Looking closer actually, this would be the AEM engine management kit to use.

Along with the COP kit.

It might seem over kill at the moment, but I've got high power plans for this engine over the next few years, with some form of low psi forced induction too.

Look how clean the bay looks with a tucked loom, and dizzyless system? Love it!

Ditching the dizzy for that smaller unit should free up some valuable space.

Definitely

Nice going Jamie, I nearly went for this at the time when I was looking at Hondata as the dizzy was getting in the way of me keeping my brake servo with the allspeed frame and there wasn't really anyone around that I could ask to hook up a wiring loom for me so I went for the DTA instead as its all there

However, now we can get a loom made up thanks to Johny that changes things, so if I'm able to ditch the IACV :whistling: I could well sway this way and run hondata in the future, we'll see

Good work

As you all say, that unit will save me valuable space - something which is MORE than important on a build like this. It'll also allow me to run the standard pedal box and servo's!

Kam - I've changed my mind about hondata, and will be using the AEM systems, very simillar to DTA but has much higher capabilities, and works off the standard looms! http://www.aemelectr...ment-system-30/
